POSITION SUMMARYThe Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) position at Grinnell College is part of a two-year career development track. The first year is dedicated to the new RLC learning their responsibilities and expectations of the role of a live-in professional staff member at Grinnell College. The 2nd year will provide an auxiliary professional development opportunity to work with an adjacent campus partner for a few hours a week in an effort to find better ways to work with other departments and a different demographic of students.

The RLC is a student-centered, collaborative, and intentional educator who supervises student staff and manages a residential learning community of approximately 250 students. The Residence Life Coordinator is - first and foremost - a residential educator responsible for creating and sustaining a community of learners that reside in a self-governing environment. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual who is energized by the opportunity to grow as a generalist in Student Affairs and help shape a thriving department focused on student learning and achievement.

Residence Life Coordinator responsibilities include day-to-day management of a residential community of approximately 250 students, supervision of high-achieving student staff, innovation program planning and implementation, personal and group advising, cooperative management of residential facilities, facilitation of the Grinnell College First Year Experience course, and serving in an on-call and crisis response rotation.

This is a 12-month position that includes housing and the salary for this position is $48,000.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Student
  • At least one year of housing or residence life experience
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills are important
  • The ability to work independently, as a member of the student affairs team, and with a highly selective student population within a rigorous academic setting; program development; outcomes assessment
  • Working effectively in a diverse environment
  • Responding to crises and emergencies; handling and protecting sensitive and confidential information and records
  • Knowledge of and experience with selective, residential liberal arts campuses
  • Understanding of and appreciation for college student development issues, and the student affairs field in general
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in higher education administration, college student personnel, counseling, hotel management, or another area relevant to student affairs
  • Live-in experience at a small, residential college or university
  • Knowledge of and experience working with students in transition
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for the Grinnell College tradition of student self-governance
  • Knowledge of the development and implementation of residential curriculums is a plus
