Research Technician III OVERVIEW:The Cain laboratory at the Duke Human Vaccine Institute is looking for a Research Technician III who will: perform a variety of complex technical duties for biological and biochemical research laboratory tests and experiments to obtain data for research purposes. Compile, analyze, document, and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results. Confer with the principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments. Make modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the particular project. Review laboratory methods, scientific journals, abstracts, and other literature for information applicable to research experiments. RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Obtain, prepare, mount, and stain tissues from mouse, non-human primates, and humans for microscopic examination and image acquisition.Stain cells, then acquire and analyze flow cytometric data.Maintain a lab notebook with raw data, and organize/prepare data for analysis by the principal investigator.Develop charts and graphs for scientific publications.Maintain sufficient inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment for performance of duties; clean and maintain laboratory equipment.Fully comply with appropriate DHVI/GHRB Safety and Compliance SOPs. Perform other duties as requested by the principal investigator.
DESIRED SKILLS:
    Experience in histology, particularly in the preparation of tissues and cutting of sections on a cryostat.Experience in flow cytometry.Experience in Biosafety Level 2 containment.The successful applicant must be eligible for and willing to:Work with hazardous biological agents handled at BSL2+ Comply with vaccination requirements when necessary
Required Qualifications at this Level
    Education/Training: Work generally requires skills acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other science related scientific field program.Experience: Work requires two years of research experience. A related master's degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience.
