You Will Be Responsible For:

Performs a wide variety of duties relating to assisting in the preparation and review of contracts and related documents in support of legal and regulatory requirements and AdventHealth policies for all units of Research Services (RS) including the Clinical Trials Business Office, Sponsored Programs Grants and Contracts, Institutional Review Board, Research Regulatory activities, Research Compliance Program and Research Education & Communication program. Performs delegated duties under the general supervision of an attorney. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Adheres to AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.

Qualifications

What You Will Need:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies or related field, or related experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience as a paralegal or in a legal or regulatory setting involving research laws and regulations

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

    • Paralegal, legal or related degree and five (5) years of experience in legal administrative support in a high volume and deadline sensitive practice area such as litigation, healthcare or intellectual property.
    • Experience performing legal, regulation or other complex research
    • Experience in contract preparation and support functions
    • Experience in areas of regulatory compliance.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

  • Paralegal licensure or Certification

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Ability to use discretion when discussing research/personnel/patient related issues that are confidential in nature.
  • Responsive to ever-changing matrix of AHRI needs and acts accordingly.
  • Self-motivator, quick thinker.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service skills; well organized and communicates well; customer oriented; works independently or in teams, as situation requires.
  • Ability to process and understand materials related to regulations, laws and policies.
  • Strong writing skills; writing sample required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

    • Knowledge of Florida laws/statutes
    • Knowledge of laws and regulations in the areas of clinical research or intellectual property
    • Knowledge of HIPAA

Job Summary:

  • Reviews federal and state regulations/statutes related to healthcare, federal contracting, and grants in the healthcare sector, to monitor changes and assist with compliance to those changes.

  • Communicates with AdventHealth and outside attorneys and/or other internal or external stakeholders regarding status of legal negotiations and/or documents.

  • Prepares and/or reviews drafts, memoranda, and/or documents prepared by and for attorneys related to research functions, including, but not limited to, clinical trial agreements, research agreements, and license agreements.

  • Performs complex research and analysis tasks for Research Services teams related to the overall mission of the AdventHealth Research Institute (AHRI) including its program, grants, contracts, and compliance functions. Researches in areas including regulations, laws, policies, procedures, grant opportunities, and requirements.

  • Assists with the development of policies, procedures, governance materials, contracts, forms, memos and analysis documents.

  • Coordinates activities of Research Services teams as needed to accomplish high level departmental or AdventHealth Research Institute projects and initiatives.

  • Adheres to Federal, State and local regulations (including HIPAA) as they pertain to assigned tasks.

  • Performs a wide range of assigned duties in support of total Department efficiency.
