Mass. Eye and Ear physicians are located at our main campus in Boston, and at our suburban locations in the greater Boston and Providence areas, across 21 locations.

Research Center Operations; Full-time; 40 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Research Operations Manager, incumbent will be responsible for a variety of tasks throughout the research center. Including but not limited to a focus on receiving room, glass room, equipment, and the surgical skills lab.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinates mailroom activities
  • In-coming mail and packages will be received, unpacked and distributed/sorted accurately and timely for distribution to appropriate departments. Issues of damaged or missing items will be reported to the necessary parties.
  • Daily rounding of labs/ floors to pick up packages/ mail to be delivered through the mailroom.
  • Process internal lab-to-lab deliveries; Pick-up and sort mail addressed to or from MEEI staff/departments.
  • Process out-going mail by weighing, determining correct charges, affixing postage, and placing in USPS Priority mailbox.
  • Monitors postal account activity and notify manager when postage meter funds need to be replenished.
  • Ensure sufficient levels of mailing supplies are maintained and ordered as needed.
  • Responsible for opening/ closing mailroom in a secure fashion at prescribed times and maintains its cleanly and orderly condition.
  • Schedules and coordinates deliveries between multiple MEE locations.
  • Assists with laboratory responsibilities
  • Unpack and setup new lab equipment at various locations.
  • Identify and address equipment repairs as needed.
  • Monitors status of equipment and repairs as requested.
  • Ensure glassware needs are addressed across Schepens Eye Research Institute
  • Assists with glass washing as needed, daily.
  • Responsible for rounding to pick up items in need of being autoclaved.
  • Runs autoclave for glassware, liquids and waste according to safety guidelines.
  • Safely disposes of damaged/broken glassware.
  • Reports issues to manager as appropriate
  • Surgical skills lab
  • Updates inventory sheet monthly for surgical skill lab.
  • Cleans surgical skills lab after sessions.
  • Maintains inventory control for the MEE surgical skills lab
  • Able to operate all AV equipment for the lab and assists when needed for wet lab sessions.
  • Responsible for safety compliance audits in research spaces; Report findings to appropriate parties.
  • Serve as back-up for Operations Manager as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Qualifications
    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    High School diploma or equivalent

    Must have the ability to read, write and communicate in English

    One to two years of mail room preferred.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Deliveries include exposure to outdoor climate and walking on wet floors. Potential Exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens. Job may require performance of tasks that involve potential for exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Must be able to reach, bend, push and stand for extended periods of time and work a varied shift based on the needs of the Infirmary. On a daily basis the position includes; lifting/pushing up to 15 pounds, reaching above shoulders, using fingers on both hands, bending, crawling, stooping, kneeling and walking or standing for 8 hours.
