Position Overview

Work on the latest technologies influencing the innovation of products in a highly collaborative environment. Checkout is a revolutionary marketing research platform that captures consumer purchases from smartphones and transforms the data into information products for our many clients. From millions of consumers we mine hundreds of millions of receipts - yielding transaction-level detail across all retailers, all channels, and over time.

This role will be responsible for helping Checkout continue growing its existing business and launch new businesses based on sound research methods. We're seeking an accomplished professional with a demonstrated ability to make complex decisions. This person must also be able to synthesize and explain research issues in a way that can be understood by others at Checkout and by our clients.

The Research Science team is responsible for ensuring that all of Checkout's services conform to our high standards with respect to methodology, data quality, and applicability to business issues. This position partners with the Innovation team to identify breakthrough techniques at the cutting edge of the research industry. Focus areas include the specification and monitoring of sampling and projection techniques, and definition of report measures. This team is actively involved in designing new methodologies and the development of approaches to evaluate the accuracy and representativeness of Checkout data.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience, with solid breadth and depth of knowledge of statistical and analytic techniques.
  • Excellent time management and creative problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven expertise in using advanced statistical and modeling techniques in the analysis of longitudinal consumer data to help drive business decisions.
  • Experience with data analysis in R is preferred but not required. Experience with additional languages and/or more extensive proficiency preferred.
  • Degree in statistics, quantitative social science, computer science, mathematics, or related fields is required. Graduate-level experience preferred.


Overall Responsibilities:
  • Statistical program development to build and enhance frameworks for statistical adjustment and modeling.
  • Develop, evaluate and communicate the guidelines and standards for Checkout's research methods and data collection/analysis techniques.
  • Design methodological enhancements to Checkout's processes.
  • Carry out tests of alternative implementations of these enhancements.
  • Conduct basic research which draws on existing Checkout data to study different aspects of consumer reporting performance.
  • Build advisory relationships with key clients from which you can derive client and industry insights to advance Checkout's reputation, positioning and long-term growth.
  • Enhance the testing and adoption of new methods to strengthen the scope and accuracy of information available to Checkout and our clients.

The ideal candidate must be able to conduct engaging and impactful presentations that deliver value to the client while telling a compelling story in a concise and polished manner to a diverse audience. Most importantly, the candidate must demonstrate the ability to listen to the customer and appropriately match the customer's needs with NPD's products and services, or be willing to direct the customer to the best solution.

Relationships
The ideal candidate must be comfortable and effective when talking with a broad range of decision influencers and decision makers within an organization. The candidate will be able to effectively understand and build relationships throughout the prospective customer's organization.

Discipline
The ideal candidate will be competent in managing their time and activities. Candidates must possess a "can-do" perspective in their professional attitude. They will be detail oriented and demonstrate a strong work ethic. They will be sticklers for accuracy in their own work as well as their colleagues. They will be ready to back up their assertions with facts.

Location

We would prefer to find a candidate who can work from our New York City office. However, we are committed to finding the right candidate across all US locations.
