College/Department Information

The laboratory's research focuses on mechanisms underlying aging and steroid hormone induce osteoporosis and marrow adiposity. Highly motivated applicants with experience in molecular biology, bone biology and immunology are encouraged to apply.

Our faculty study a variety of fundamental questions ranging from aging, regenerative medicine and neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders, functions of the nervous system, using a broad repertoire of experimental approaches. A number of doctoral students of Neuroscience and Molecular Medicine PhD Programs are doing their thesis research in the department. The department is also a major contributor to Augusta University's Center for Healthy Aging, a multidisciplinary consortium whose mission is to improve and restore function to injured and degenerating tissues of the human body. The department places a strong emphasis on translational research with collaborations with multiple clinical departments including Neurology, Psychiatry, Orthopaedic Surgery, Neurosurgery and Medicine.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the maintenance of transgenic and mutant mouse strains, breeding, genotyping etc.; performing experiments such as PCR, western blot, co-immunoprecipitation assays, ELISA assays, cell isolation, cell culture, histology; analyzing results, interpreting data and confer with Pl on research plans; training of new lab members; ordering lab supplies and organizing lab.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform experiments using a combination of molecular biology techniques and cell culture system. Analyze and interpret data and confer with PI on research plans.
  • Inspect animal cages, genotyping, breeding mouse colonies and conduct animal studies. Maintenance of transgenic and mutant mouse strains, breeding, genotyping, etc. Coordinate with other laboratory personnel about research plans, maintenance of mouse colonies.
  • General management for laboratory. Help manage day-to-day operations, upkeep of the laboratory and compliance with all regulatory requirements, training of new lab members.
  • Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned.


Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience; previous supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in writing manuscripts and presenting research work in meetings.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities



Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills.

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality. Willingness and ability to work with research animals.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).

Pay Grade: R14

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
