Georgetown University's Center for Retirement Initiatives (CRI) - affiliated with the McCourt School of Public Policy - is a nationally recognized public policy institute that serves as a trusted advisor -recognized for its rigorous research, education and technical assistance-to state, local, and federal policymakers and stakeholders dedicated to strengthening financial well-being and retirement readiness of millions of American workers.

Job Overview

Defined by a passion for policy innovation, an interest public policy and finance, and the legislative process, the Research Associate contributes to the center's core research, education, and technical assistance activities.

Although the ideal candidate is familiar with public policy and public finance, economics, and retirement related programs, such as Social Security and retirement savings products and plans (e.g., IRAs and 401(k)s), the Research Associate is expected to quickly learn about federal and state policies and programs related to retirement and pensions to support the Center's faculty and staff.

The Research Associate has responsibilities that include assisting CRI faculty, staff and leadership with qualitative and quantitative research and policy analysis; contributing to the writing of policy briefs and issues papers, fact sheets, blog posts, talking points, and presentations; collecting and analyzing data; tracking and summarizing state and federal legislation and regulations; updating the Center's website; assisting with event and conference planning; and performing other duties as assigned.

They also have opportunities for professional development by attending conferences and meetings on behalf of the CRI.

Work Interactions

Reporting to the Center's Executive Director, the Research Associate also functions as part of a larger team, including but not limited to center-affiliated faculty, research fellows, senior research associates and student research assistants.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in political science, economics, business, public policy, or public administration.
  • 2 to 3 years of public policy, legislative and/or research experience preferred.
  • A high degree of professionalism and the ability to work as part of a team, to be strongly detailed oriented, and to manage multiple assignments at one time.
  • Experience contributing to, writing and publishing public policy related work e.g., through an internship or independent research project
  • Excellent writing, communications, and project management skills


Preferred qualification

Experience with graphic design, data visualization, social media, podcasts, and other digital tools

Research Associates must sign a confidentiality agreement and properly handle all information acquired in the position.
