GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Center for Alzheimer Research and Treatment (CART) at the Brigham and Women's Hospital is looking to hire a highly motivated Research Assistant I. She/he will be responsible for administering cognitive (psychometric) testing and behavioral questionnaires for clinical trials, investigator-initiated studies, and multicenter imaging/biomarker trials to participants who may be cognitively normal, have mild cognitive impairment, or dementia, as well as to their study partners. This position will also serve as a back-up study coordinator to therapeutic trials and/or observational studies In addition, this role will serve as back-up to administer/collect medical assistant responsibilities, like EKG, vitals signs, adverse events/concurrent medications, assist with lumbar punctures etc.

Qualifications
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers cognitive (psychometric) testing and behavioral questionnaires for clinical trials, investigator-initiated studies, and multicenter imaging/biomarker trials at the Center for Alzheimer Research and Treatment.
  • Perform quality assurance checks for relevant source documents and cognitive testing platforms.
  • Performs data entry and quality assurance checks for administered tests and questionnaires.
  • Provides backup support for collecting vital signs, blood draws, ECG's, and assisting with lumbar punctures.
  • Assist with participant recruitment including but not limited to: attending outreach/recruitment events, performing telephone pre-screens, administering memory screen testing, and obtaining medical records.
  • Serve as back-up study coordinator. This includes working with study PI and primary study coordinator to ensure that all study procedures are completed correctly; interacting with the sponsor of the study on a regular basis; addressing sponsor queries; assist in obtaining necessary information for period IRB submissions.
  • Works with our clinical trial management system, assists with updating study information as necessary.
  • Under the supervision of a study physician or nurse, ability to obtain and record pertinent health information as well as maintain all necessary source documents relating to research participants.
  • Package lab specimens to be shipped to external vendors.
  • Engage in the program's diversity and inclusivity initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or as position requires.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • College degree required.
  • Preferred experience in performing cognitive testing and administering behavioral questionnaires in a research or clinical setting, preferably in elderly subjects or patients.
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
  • Ability to work under stress; the clinical research setting is a very dynamic and demanding environment.
  • Ability to work well independently, prioritizing work according to and within established study protocols.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to be able to interact with a variety of people in person and on the telephone. Must be able to relate well with subjects, caregivers, physicians/investigators, and administrators.
  • Strong team player and can communicate well within an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • High level of organization skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow directions and protocol requirements.
  • Possess well-developed computer skills.
  • Respect the strict confidentiality of medical records and study data.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
