Position Overview:

The Reliability Engineer (RE) ensures safe, environmentally compliant and reliable operation of the equipment within the assigned business team. The RE plays a critical role in the business team organization and will lead, mentor, and coach the team to deliver results in both the day-to-day and longer term objectives of the team with a focus on reliability improvement. The RE utilizes data and predictive analytical techniques to forecast potential issues and implement proactive measures to minimize incidents and downtime. The RE strives to extend the life of critical equipment, reduce operational costs and enhance plant productivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in HSSE activities throughout the site, personally adhere to all requirements, and leverage reliability improvements to reduce site personal/process safety risk.
  • Lead the Mitigate Threats to Availability (MTA) and Bad Actor work processes as the focal point for assigned Business Team to assure threats are effectively and consistently identified, risk assessed, prioritized, and a high reliability risk reduction strategy is developed.
  • Provide leadership in the business team and UPM meetings to improve effectiveness and remove barriers to progress risk reduction in all areas (safety, environmental and equipment assets).
  • Provide technical and reliability engineering support with the design, selection and specification for routine and non-routine maintenance activities, and expense and small capital projects.
  • Champion the RCM process for the business team in the development and implementation of maintenance plans to ensure equipment and system reliability and integrity.
  • Lead/participate in incident investigations to ensure that work is thoroughly completed to understand cause(s) and are based on facts.
  • Analyze plant reliability performance data (UPDT/LPO incidents) to identify improvement opportunities and recommend appropriate action to improve reliability.
  • Actively engage in unit Turnaround scope review to ensure that threats are integrated into the plan and eliminate and actively participate in review of discovery work and after-action reviews.
  • Lead five-year business plan development activities, development of yearly capital and business plans and ensure that threats are incorporated into these plans.
  • Lead development of asset strategies for major equipment and Bad Actors, and systemic/site wide threats.

Experience and Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 4+ years of experience working in varied technical support roles in a refinery or petrochemical facility
  • Strong leadership capability
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional problem solving/investigations
  • Risk assessment knowledge/skill
  • Ability to balance short term and longer-term work
  • Ability to develop, integrate, plan, and drive reliability strategies/tactics
  • Ability to communicate complex topics in a simple, understandable way

Physical Requirements:
  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots and hearing protection)
