The Reliability Engineer will drive excellent customer experience by helping our EE, ME, SW, and FW Engineers to achieve expected reliability of our product in vitro diagnostics products. This technical role will be responsible to support assessment and improvement in final product reliability. The ideal candidate will be working closely with the design, software, firmware, and manufacturing engineers to characterize existing designs and demonstrate design improvements through testing. Primary function of this position is to make/review/improve/execute current plans for systems/subsystems reliability testing. This includes design, procurement and automate the systems/subsystems throughout the reliability tests. Other important task is to support current efforts by the design team for bench testing critical components and subsystems.

This position is part of the Engineering R&D and will be located in Sunnyvale, CA - Hybrid. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Define and implement functional and reliability requirements of systems/subsystems to plan reliability/life tests that help evaluate the short/ long term compliance with the specs. Provide reliability predictions, along with test plans and methods to assess and drive product reliability to the desired levels. Develop & present methods of correlating reliability test results with actual field performance.

  • Interact and work closely with SW, FW, IT, PM engineering groups and suppliers ensuring the desired reliability is achieved using Design for Reliability (DfR) approaches including FMEA and DoE approaches.

  • Own the product and engineering design reviews, assessing the reliability budget of products/designs and inspire changes which improve product reliability.

  • Ability to perform and lead appropriate testing with associated failure analysis and recommendations for improving designs and manufacturing.

  • Implement Danaher Business System tools and methodologies to improve efficiencies and reduce redundant activities in the system. Develop test methods and test plans for design verification and validation plans.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor's degree with minimum of 2 years work experience in reliability/life testing of medical capital/consumer equipment and instruments or other related engineering fields with direct work experience.

  • Direct experience with accelerated/ highly accelerated life test design and analysis.

  • Hands on with statistical tools such as JMP, Minitab, DOE++, Weibull++, ALTA, BlockSim and experience in programming (Python, Matlab) and data acquisition tools and techniques, for measuring electrical and physical phenomenon such as temperature, voltage, current, torque, force, pressure, or sounds.

  • Experience working with cross-functional design teams and manufacturing through product development cycle.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Demonstrated leadership in reliability improvements, influencing the design, process, software, firmware engineering from early design.

  • Medical device industry experience or equivalent experience in a regulated industry.

The salary range for this role is ($100k-$120k). This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
