Interventional - The Interventional business unit at Teleflex offers innovative medical devices that are used to diagnose and treat coronary and peripheral vascular diseases. We place a strategic emphasis on complex coronary and peripheral interventions, vascular access, bone access, specialty biologic treatments and cardiac assist. Position Summary

  • Supervise and lead Technician resources to support engineering efforts across Interventional R&D sites.
  • Responsible for training and development of R&D Technicians across product franchises and Interventional R&D sites.
  • Coordinates tasks and responsibilities of Technicians working on engineering teams/projects. Examples: building and testing of products, validations, equipment IQ, TMVs, SWO, DV documentation, etc.
  • Prioritizes and schedules Technician resources in R&D labs. Estimates technician time for project requests. Assigns project work to technicians based upon portfolio-level project prioritization and skillsets.
  • Responsible for lab safety including training, 5S, and safety compliance across all Interventional R&D labs.
  • Provides direction and expertise to technicians for projects/tasks.
  • Hires R&D lab personnel as needed (regular and temporary employees).
  • Schedules and maintains lab equipment: organization, tracking, calibration, and maintenance across R&D sites.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with IQ, OQ, and PQ validation, DVT, and TMV testing of medical devices including creating supporting documentation.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of GMP and procedures.
  • Proficient knowledge of technical drawings, product requirements, and engineering specifications.
  • Supervises technical employees and tasks supporting R&D engineering project services: prototyping, building, and testing of products, validation, equipment development, and documentation.
  • Responsible for scheduling, staffing, training, and development of R&D Lab Technicians across sites.
  • Responsible for lab safety and maintaining OSHA compliance
  • Responsible for creating a culture consistent with Teleflex core values
  • Provides leadership and guidance for non-routine problems requiring substantial judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and adaptation of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Supervises team to achieve stated strategic plan goals, annual operating plan goals, and functional goals in concert with other R&D leaders. Continuously reviews department and project team progress and evaluates results accordingly.


Principal Responsibilities

RESOURCE ALLOCATION
• Works with internal departments to obtain necessary resources, resolves inter-departmental issues, and contribute toward organizational objectives.
• Manages department resources to assure that all resources are identified and prioritized; includes resolving resource conflicts.
• Determines team priorities to assure meeting of agreed-upon commitments per organizational strategy.
• Conducts project/team meetings as required to resolve issues, determine current status, provide information, and assign work.
• Ensures adequate communication between engineers, technicians, and other departments.
PEOPLE
• Mentors and trains employees to meet expectations of their job descriptions and to develop them technically and professionally.
• Ensures the content, thoroughness, and quality of the work generated by the department.
• Maintains open communication with employees to ensure understanding of their needs.
• Manages the selection, compensation, appraisal, feedback, training, and development processes within team to ensure optimum attraction, motivation, and retention of employees.
• Sets goals and objectives for team and employees, provides direct feedback and appraisals
• Ensure company policies and procedures are followed taking timely corrective action with the help of HR when necessary.
• Ensures that technical employees work within appropriate development processes.

WORK OUTPUT
• Ability to manage work with conflicting priorities and compressed timelines and coordinate/delegate tasks to team members.
• Ability to provide leadership for projects of limited scope and impact or portions of a major project.
• Ability to guide employees in troubleshooting and carrying out project-related activities. Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Oversees preparation of documentation associated with technical activities including: validation, capability testing, equipment qualifications, calibration, and new operating procedures, etc.
• Provides leadership in improving engineering processes.
• Provides reports and presentations to management as required.
• May manage the creation, documentation, and processing of patents sourced from the department.
• Manages the design and fabrication of components, subassemblies, and final assemblies.

PROCESSES
• Participates in Document Change Order approval process.
• Assures that projects are conducted according to corporate guidelines and Quality Management System requirements.
• Responsible for maintaining compliance to industry standards.

BUDGET
• Manages, evaluates, and operates within project and department operating and capital budgets.

TECHNOLOGY
• Researches new technologies and processes in collaboration with other R&D leaders.
• Promotes design and/or selection of lab equipment to reduce costs and improve quality.
• May select and work with vendors.

Education / Experience Requirements

• College level coursework in engineering curriculum preferred.
• 2-year technical degree in a scientific discipline required or 10 years of directly relevant technical experience
• BA/BS in Engineering or physical sciences preferred.
• 2-5 years of supervision/management of technical roles preferred.

Specialized Skills / Other Requirements

• Ability to independently manage aspects of larger projects from inception to completion.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel software.
• Good working knowledge of processes and equipment common to medical device manufacturing; examples include additive manufacturing, machining, extrusion, injection molding, coating, adhesive and thermal bonding, etc.
• Experience with and working knowledge of ISO9000, FDA, and GMP requirements.
