Quality Assurance Inspector

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Selects products for tests at specified stages in production process, and tests products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical, electrical, or chemical characteristics.
  • Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures.
  • Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
  • Sets up and performs destructive and non-destructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life or material characteristics. This includes Level II non-destructive tests such as Magnetic Particle Inspection.
  • Prepares graphs or charts of data or enters data into computer for analysis.
  • Sets up standard and special purpose laboratory equipment to test and evaluate.
  • Measures parts for conformity with specifications.
  • Devises formulas to solve problems in measurements.
  • Assists engineers in formulating test, repair, and evaluation plans and procedures to maintain precision accuracy of measuring, recording, and indicating instruments and equipment.
  • Have advance knowledge of CMM operation.
  • Issue and maintain serial numbers for both components and Finished Goods.
  • Assemble a wide variety of large bearings using hand tools and hand assembly fixtures. Assembly procedures vary with type and size of bearings. Performs such operations as inserting rollers in the pockets and inserting roll pins, inserting the cage inside the outer Race, check proper measurements, etc.
  • Oil parts prior to or after assembly, where required.
  • Tag work where necessary.
  • Serialize the brass cage, using the hand etcher.
  • Check for Outer Diameter size, roller diameter, OK/NOT OK, check all roll pins are properly seated.
  • Visually inspect parts for various issues, including rust, no oil, no hole, chipped, etc.
  • Make measurements of Outer Diameter and width.
  • Hand etch the components serial number in the Outer Diameter of the Outer Diameter flange.
  • Check the part alignment, unmounted radial clearance between the Outer Race and Inner Race, Diametrical clearance between the top subassembly and the Inner Race, and the EP clearance.
  • Etch the proper assembly serial number with the component serial numbers used in the assembly.
  • Perform daily inspections on equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance per instructions for machine or equipment.
  • Follow all safety and housekeeping rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform any other job-related duties per direction of supervisor or lead person.
  • Record required information, either in written or electronic form, pertinent to production, quality, and time records.
  • Work from written and verbal instructions to set, renew, and inspect both Company and employee-owned precision measuring equipment including inspection and production gauges such as dial indicators; micrometers; calipers; Jo blocks; etc. Uses master gauges and precision gauge blocks.
  • Develop gauging set-ups for production and inspection gauging. Review master gauge requisition by Production Department personnel against drawings before issuing masters. Check precision gauge blocks from master sets.
  • Scale samples of purchased parts and of manufactured parts and compare against drawings to verify part identification for manufacturing personnel. As directed, perform special gauging operations on gauging equipment or on parts requiring highest type precision and /or unusual gauging set-up.
  • Make minor repairs and adjustments on measuring equipment such as adjusting micrometers and calipers, and replacing screws on micrometers, dial indicators, shafts, etc. Re-mark fixed gauges which have changed dimensionally. Advise when to send equipment outside for repairs and make recommendations for replacement or for additional measuring equipment.
  • Keep records of inspection and repairs, condition, and location of measuring equipment and prepare necessary reports. Tag or mark inspection equipment with stickers or similar methods showing inspection dates.   • Perform first piece inspection on work coming from outside vendors. Inspect new or unusual samples of bearings from RBC or other manufacturers as appropriate.
  • Keep gauges in proper storage locations and maintain records of inventories.
  • Work with machine operators as partners to insure quality parts. Assist in training new employees in quality concepts and proper use of precision measuring equipment.
  • Must have knowledge of Gauge Dimensioning and Tolerance (Roundness, Parallelism, Perpendicularity, Squareness, Surface finish, etc.)
  • Perform daily inspections on equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance per instructions for machine and equipment.
  • Follow all safety and housekeeping rules, policies and procedures.
  • Perform any other job-related duties per direction of supervisor or lead person.
  • Record required information, either in written or electronic form, pertinent to production, quality, and time records.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Education: High School/G.E.D

Additional Information: Requires minimum scores on Work Keys Assessments; Reading, Math, Locating Information and Observation.
