Purchasing Buyer Projects/Expeditor

Reports To: Manager, Purchasing

Location: Charlotte, n.c.

ANDRITZ HYDRO USA operates in a niche market that provides overhaul and rehabilitation to hydro power plants. The work encompasses a wide range of repair, replacement and improvement services to restore dependability and sustainability to hydro power facilities, or to increase capacity and/or efficiency. Projects range in size and scope, but routinely span from component assessment, design, and procurement to site installation and commissioning. Hydro power is recognized as the most economic form of renewable energy, and the company is committed to environmentally friendly concepts.

Roles:

  • Purchase large, heavy custom-engineered parts for hydropower plant refurbishment. Coordinate complex projects with a multitude of unique parts, specialized services, and negotiated terms.
  • Identify suppliers ideally suited for meeting each purchase request from engineering, negotiate costs and delivery dates, and prepare formal purchase orders.
  • Support commercial management in handling complicated customs issues.
  • Expedites purchase orders and manages delivery dates. Coordinate with appropriate operational disciplines (Engineering, Procurement, Quality, Field Services, etc.) to avoid and resolve schedule delays.
  • Communicate purchasing details with job sites, and swiftly reacts to changes as necessary.
  • Maintain well documented files to accurately present a clear audit trail with regards to vendor contract performance, which is also used for vendor ratings.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and resolves any issues that arise.
  • Uses SRM to manage supplier contracts, agreements, certificates, etc.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business with a concentration in supply chain/logistics
  • 1-3 years experience in purchasing large industrial components and/or complex engineered parts (castings or machined parts).
  • Experience in production control, expediting, logistics and/or EPC projects is preferred.
  • Sourcing Experience
  • Experience in procuring large service contracts.
  • Familiar with government contracts and small business administration.
  • ERP system experience (SAP preferred).
  • Strong computer skills (MS Excel, Access, Word, Project). Familiarity with scheduling software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Government sourcing requirements is a plus.

  • Good judgment and demonstrated ability to work independently under changing conditions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must be assertive and highly proactive with the ability to stimulate action to achieve on time delivery of parts, equipment and materials.
  • Well organized, detail-oriented, and self-disciplined with the ability to prioritize work and manage multiple simultaneous activities.
