Job Summary
Performs a variety of complex administrative tasks related to the production of printed and online materials by the Indiana University Mathematics Journal (IUMJ). Supports university printing and publishing activities for the journal. Performs administrative tasks related to special projects. Work may include additional duties in support of other functions or administrative needs.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Manages daily correspondence for the IUMJ particularly between authors, referees, and editors.
- Works with the journal secretary in accounting procedures for the IUMJ (creating and submitting invoices, etc.), to ensure all paperwork submitted to the university is proper in content and form.
- Assists the Managing and Assistant Editor in various tasks necessary for maintenance and publishing of the IUMJ.
- Develops, evaluates, and implements strategies for gaining subscribers and increasing the market presence of the IUMJ.
Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED and two years of experience in a relevant field.Proficient communication skills. Maintains a high degree of professionalism. Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills. Demonstrates a high commitment to quality. Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Highly thorough and dependable. Ability to build strong customer relationships.
Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree. Two years of editing, writing, marketing, or communications experience, and one year experience with written communication in a journal, periodical, or academic setting. Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with diverse populations from all over the world. Detail-oriented temperament and an ability to handle complex email threads. Ability to learn and use basic computer software (especially email software). Experience with written communication in a journal, periodical, or academic setting. Facility in basic accounting procedures. Experience working in Linux. Knowledge of/experience in TeX, Python, or other programming/scripting languages.
Working Conditions / DemandsThis role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Work LocationBloomington, Indiana
Advertised Salary$16.00 to $16.45 per hour.
Work HoursUp to 20 hours per week in an appointed staff role.
