The University of Iowa Department of Public Safety is looking for a Security Officer to be located at the Dental Sciences building. This position is responsible for patrolling assigned area on foot to ensure protection of building occupants as well as property and equipment in addition to controlling and monitoring the access in and out of the building.

Duties Include:

• Checking building and surroundings
• Reporting discrepancies and hazards and notifying police division as needed
• Use of portable ratio communication and departmental vehicles
• Traversing indoors/outdoors in all weather conditions

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

• Two years' experience in security and safety, or
• One year of post-high school education related to security and safety and one year of experience in security and safety, or
• Two years of post-high school education related to security and safety.
• Possession of valid driver's license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
• Ability to obtain Certified Protection Officer certification from the International Foundation of Protection Officers within 6 months of hire and maintain certification for duration of employment.

Desirable Qualifications

• Ability to maintain a professional and respectful demeanor with the public that fosters good relations.
• Demonstrated customer service experience.
• Basic computer skills.
• Effective communication skills, oral and written, to interact with people from various backgrounds and cultures.
