Who We Are: The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Norfolk Regional Center (NRC) is now accepting resumes for our Psychologist opportunity. NRC is a 120-bed inpatient treatment center and is dedicated to providing Phase I services in the Nebraska Sex Offender Treatment Program. The Nebraska Sex Offender Treatment Program is a three phase treatment program meant to reduce dangerousness and risk of re-offense for patients involved in treatment. Phase I treatment orients patients to the treatment process; begins working with patients to accept full responsibility for their sex offending and sexually deviant behaviors; teaches patients to give and receive feedback and utilize coping skills; and builds motivation for the intensive treatment in Phases II and III. Hiring rate of position: Negotiable

Work location: Norfolk Regional Center 1700 N. Victory Rd. Norfolk, NE 68701

Work schedule: 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday-Friday - occasional weekend
Examples of Work
Psychologists take leadership roles on treatment teams, Medical Staff, and various other committees within the hospital. They provide consultation to staff during treatment team meetings and on behavior plans, and provide training for staff. They write initial comprehensive treatment plans and are an integral part of the treatment planning team. Psychologists provide individual and group therapy for patients. They complete psychological evaluations addressing psychological functioning, intellectual ability, and personality as well as assessments of risk for elopement, suicide, violence and sexual re-offense. Along with Psychiatry, they make patient diagnoses in Diagnostic Staff. Psychologists also provide testimony for mental health board hearings. Program development is also needed at times.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Must be licensed to practice psychology in the state of Nebraska.

PREFERRED: A doctoral degree in psychology is required. Licensure as a Psychologist in the State of Nebraska is preferred, but may have a provisional license as a Psychologist. One year post-doctorate experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Applicants should have knowledge of and experience with common psychological tests and risk assessment measures. Flexibility in working with an interdisciplinary team as well as a diverse population of sex offenders is needed. Special knowledge in working with lower intellectual functioning, learning disabled, or personality disordered populations is preferred.

Applicants should possess a training orientation to help educate front line staff about working with a sex offender population. The psychologist should develop knowledge of the sex offender commitment act and the mental health commitment act.
