Position Summary

As a Project Technician this position will be responsible for assisting the design team in preparation of shop and fabrication drawings for curtain wall, storefront and entrance portions of building projects in both AutoCAD and Revit.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities

Project Scope and Understanding

  • Review proposals, takeoffs, specifications and architectural/structural drawings to understand and interpret project scope and requirements.
  • Research and understand manufacturer systems, standard details, fabrication instructions and installation instructions.
  • Understand and adhere to EAP's standard design and drafting standards.

Shop Drawings

  • Prepare shop drawings in AutoCAD and Revit including cover, general notes, plans, elevations, sections, and details.
  • Identify project related design issues and gaps, and working with the internal design team, develop design resolutions as required to complete shop drawing preparation.
  • Review architectural interpretation or drafting work of other peer drafters according to EAP's quality review program and standards.
  • Particular attention to be focused on identifying and solving fabrication and site installation related issues in the shop drawings prior to fabrication and installation.

Communication

  • Work closely with the internal design team including Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Application Engineers, Structural Engineers, Job Captain, and other Project Technicians.
  • Attend internal kickoff and design team meetings as required.
  • Communicate regularly with Job Captain providing update on status of work tasks and promptly identifying issues.
  • Communicate with Drafting Supervisor regarding overall workload and status on projects via one on one conversations, email, or task scheduling software.
  • Communicate with outside customers, architects, engineers, etc. when directed by Project Manager. However, prime communication with customers will be directly through the Project Manager.

Continuous Improvement

  • Work with the Drafting Supervisor to identify improvements in drafting processes and to standardize details and drawings to improve future project efficiencies.
  • Participate in training programs for professional development.
  • Spend time in fabrication shop to review projects, expand knowledge and to keep current on impact of design work on fabrication.

Reporting

  • Record time per project and submit daily timesheet to accounting for processing.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • Successful completion of Architectural Technology Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with Revit preferred, but not required.
  • Previous drafting experience preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to read architectural/design drawings.
  • Good understanding of building construction. Knowledge related to curtain wall, storefront, entrances and window products preferred.
  • High attention to detail
  • Proficient in all areas of the latest version of AutoCAD.
  • Proficient in all areas of the latest version of RIVET.
  • Effective communication skills at all levels both written and verbal.
  • Effective skills in analytical thinking and problem solving.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and ability to effectively manage conflict.
  • Ability to work in teams to obtain results, self-motivated/directed, minimal supervision required over time.
