Brigham and Women's Hospital is seeking a Project Manager based in Boston, MA who will be responsible for supervising a diverse portfolio of infectious disease and global health projects locally and internationally.

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigators, the Project Manager will function independently to oversee a portfolio of efforts and drive project implementation forward. The ideal candidate will have experience managing research studies, administering large scale grants and US government contracts, and leading large cross-functional project teams. Examples of current efforts include:

  • The TestBoston project is a collaboration between Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. TestBoston is a large-scale (10,000+ participant) longitudinal COVID-19 home testing study, with the aims of I) estimating the incidence and prevalence of COVID-19 infection in the greater Boston area II) determining the prevalence of asymptomatic PCR positive infection, and III) understanding correlation between seropositivity and immune protection to repeat infection.
  • The Partnership for Health Advancement in Vietnam (HAIVN), a collaboration between Harvard Medical School and its affiliated hospitals (Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Brigham and Women's Hospital), seeks to develop capacity for high quality medical education, medical research and healthcare quality in Vietnam.
  • Transforming Infectious Disease Diagnostics is a cross-institutional collaboration between BWH and the Broad Institute studying clinical microbial isolates to develop highly sensitive diagnostic measures to better understand the biology and mechanisms of infectious disease.

  • Description of duties:

  • Liaise with interdisciplinary teams (e.g. research assistants, laboratory staff, software engineers, grant administrators) across Brigham and Women's and the Broad Institute to facilitate project operations, manage tasks, and troubleshoot logistical barriers to project success
  • Directly supervise a team of Research Assistants who support sample collection, participant recruitment & retention efforts.
  • Track macro-level trends to identify and troubleshoot barriers to successful study implementation.
  • Support the development and implementation of project strategies, work plans, and activities
  • Interview, hire, onboard and train new staff as needed
  • Ensure compliance with the terms of USG award regulations, including drafting and timely submission of donor required reports, presentations and deliverables.
  • Coordinate project finances including timely submission of vendor invoices and travel reimbursements for payment, tracking expenditures, and preparing financial reports.
  • Assist with development of stakeholder reports, success stories, and manuscripts. Includes review and editing of communications, draft scholarly publications including literature reviews, drafting and formatting manuscripts.
  • Assist with drafting and editing grant application materials (e.g. budgets, work plans, proposals), create timelines and checklists to coordinate the application process.
  • Maintain direct, frequent, and effective communications with Vietnam project offices including organization of regular management calls between Boston and Vietnam as well as technical meetings when appropriate.
  • Support Boston-based technical advisors by drafting consulting agreements, ensuring timely payment of consulting invoices and travel reimbursements, and coordinating between Boston-based advisors and Vietnam-based staff.
  • Develop agendas, coordinate logistics, and travel arrangements between Vietnam and Boston for staff, faculty, experts and consultants.
  • Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and supporting field staff, expatriate staff, interns, and consultants for projects.


  • Qualifications
    Required Qualifications

    Education: Bachelors required. Master's in Public Health or MSc strongly preferred.

    A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience

    Language: English.

    Skills:
    • Ability to communicate effectively with all relevant individuals and organizations in a culturally diverse academic environment.
    • Outstanding organizational skills with attention to detail
    • Excellent writing and editing skills
    • Experience with protocol development and liasing with institutional review boards
    • A strategic thinker and strong team player, with demonstrated ability to deliver under pressure.
    • Ability to anticipate needs as they arise.
    • Ability to maintain a high standard of personal conduct.

    Knowledge:
    • Knowledge of protocol development
    • Knowledge of human subjects research and IRB oversight
    • Knowledge of budget development, financial tracking and bookkeeping
    • Knowledge of USG grants/contracts/cooperative agreements, including USG rules, regulations, reporting

    Other Skills (e.g. IT):
    • Proficiency in standard MS Office software applications.
