Project Management Specialist🔍School of Medicine, Stanford, California, United States📁Administration📅Mar 06, 2023 Post Date📅98126 Requisition #The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is seeking a Project Management Specialist to manage activities of a set of collaborative projects between the lab of Dr. Justin Sonnenburg and academic and non-profit institutions. Our research program aims to elucidate the basic principles that govern interactions within the intestinal microbiota and between the microbiota and the host. Specifically, we are exploring the effects of perturbations in the intestinal environment, such as changes in diet, microbial community composition, pathogen exposure, host genotype, and microbiota-targeted small molecules. To pursue these aims, we study the microbiomes of global human populations and how these microbiomes respond to dietary, medical, and other lifestyle interventions. The candidate will be assigned projects from project initiation through completion with limited guidance; coordinate all technical activities on assigned projects. Work is typically comprised of 30% time contribution towards project leadership and 70% as a technical contributor. Duties include:

  • Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the unit, function or program by identifying and executing tasks and objectives, making recommendations that impact policies and programs, and assigning resources to achieve the goals of the program.
  • Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.
  • Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for program or function
  • Represent the program or function as the key contact and subject matter expert within the department, unit or school. Commit resources and provide information and/or training. May also represent the program or function to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.
  • Organize and/or participate in outreach activities that may include developing communications and training, planning/promoting events and/or conferences.
  • May participate in development of budgets, monitor, and approve expenditures. May perform limited forecasting and provide recommendations that determine the budget.
  • May direct staff to perform various tasks and assignments. May also supervise staff.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Candidate will need to demonstrate aptitudes in foresight, planning and ability to organize and communicate effectively, in-person, virtually, and by email.
  • Self-motivation, initiative, and drive are desired.
  • Experience working in a collaborative, scientific setting on projects that span across several entities (academic, commercial, non-profit).
  • Laboratory experience is desired and experience in microbiome science, DNA sequencing, and other -omics technologies is a plus.
  • Ability to track and organize financial aspects of multiple projects using spreadsheets and databases as the scientific work progresses is essential.
  • Master's degree in related field.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally use a telephone.
  • Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • May require working in close proximity to blood borne pathogens.
  • May require work in an environment where animals are used for teaching and research.
  • Position may at times require the employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present.
  • Employee may perform tasks that require the use of personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and shoes, protective clothing and gloves, and possibly a respirator.

The expected pay range for this position is $66,100 to $107,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
