Purpose

Job Summary:

The Program Manager, Technology & Design develops and implements effective strategies and processes for development engineering activities and is responsible for performing oversite and review of utility-scale onshore wind, solar, and energy storage project technology and design. The Program Manager advises on strategy during renewable project development and assists the transition of projects advancing from development to construction.

In addition to strong conceptual and practical technical knowledge, the successful candidate will have a proven track-record of successfully managing priorities, excellent communication skills, and building positive relationships with key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Act as a technology and design technical subject matter expert representing Development Engineering to support internal teams such as Origination, Development, Environmental & Permitting, Meteorology, Land, and Transmission & Interconnect teams, including site evaluation, representation at public hearings, permitting applications support, and landowner interface.
• Effectively and proactively coordinate and communicate with internal teams and global stakeholders, including participation in Global Practice Groups.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of design standards, standard operating procedures, project infrastructure criteria, and construction bid packages, and their incorporation into preliminary design.
• Advise on and guide an efficient and clear engineering workflow to ensure design consistency, quality, accuracy, and alignment across Development Engineering leads and the project portfolio.
• Advise and facilitate during review process of preliminary electrical and civil designs with Development, Construction, Operations, and Global technical teams.
• Support Purchasing and Contracting processes for electrical and civil engineering services, as well as major electrical equipment, including solar modules, inverters, racking, wind turbines, and BESS.
• Provide technical support to Operations as may be required for project infrastructure, facilities, and systems, as well as incorporating and implementing lessons learned from Construction and Operations.
• Perform research and analyses to inform strategic design and equipment optimization and recommendations.
• Organize external resources to provide technical expertise to achieve results while coordinating, tracking, and reviewing requirements and engineering deliverables.
• Mentor, develop, and support other engineers in technical and professional skills.

Skills and Requirements

Experience / Education

• 8+ years of relevant engineering experience with renewable energy, including wind, solar, and BESS.
• Experience leading teams and complex renewable energy projects
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent education; preference may be giving to candidates with relevant advanced degree(s).

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of various aspects of renewable energy project development, design, permitting, construction, and/or operations.
• Working knowledge of renewable energy industry EPC construction contracts and execution practices.
• Knowledge of and established relationships with renewable energy leading consultants, lenders, and Independent Engineers.
• Excellent influencing and communication skills, including cross-cultural consideration and ability to present to all management levels.
• Strong understanding of renewable energy project technical documentation such as interconnection agreements, facilities studies, permitting documents, local codes and regulations, civil and electrical construction specifications, and reliability standards and requirements (e.g. NEC, NERC, FERC, NETA, NESC, etc.).
• Knowledge of renewable energy cost estimating, supply chain, equipment contracts, policy, and taxation.
• Expert in Microsoft Office Suite; proficiency in PV design software, Primavera, MS Project, Aconex, Visio, and/or SAP desirable.
