The mission of the Center for Geriatric Surgery is to provide high-quality perioperative care tailored to the needs of older adult patients through an innovative, interdisciplinary approach establishing and integrating evidence-based processes throughout all phases of surgical care.

Reporting to the Nurse Program Director for the Center for Geriatric Surgery, the Program Manager is responsible for the management of services, specifically in the areas of administration, operations, logistics, and communications. The Program Manager is the administrative lead for the center and, in partnership with the clinical leads, plays an important role to ensure the advancement and growth of the center across the Brigham and Women's Hospital. Given that the center's objectives are cross-departmental, the Program Manager will work with the team to ensure the successful rollout of the clinical and administrative pathways, dashboard development, and electronic health record enhancements and builds. The Program Manager will also manage communication with the American College of Surgeons and the verification review as it relates to Geriatric Surgery Verification for Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Responsibilities include:


  • Partner with leadership to support development/presentation of strategic plan to hospital leadership
  • Manage the timelines, equipment, supplies, and other administrative needs of the center
  • Maintain administrative consistency of the Center for Geriatric Surgery, maintain clinical call schedule, meet deadlines for related submissions
  • Administratively support quality and process improvement efforts
  • Organize and plan internal and external meetings for the Center for Geriatric Surgery and associated committees: sending invitations and reminders, scheduling conference rooms, preparing slides, recording minutes and action items, and providing additional follow up as needed
  • Manage timeline, budget, and resources to support Geriatric Surgery program implementation and integration efforts
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve day to day challenges in collaboration with digital health, marketing, real estate, finance, or other teams
  • Provide logistical support for interdisciplinary educational programs
  • Support data structure setup and analytics
  • Ensure meetings are structured and maintain follow-up
Quality and Process Improvement
  • Ensure strict adherence to GSV application submission guidelines, including formatting and deadlines. Manage logistics of American College of Surgeons (ACS) Geriatric Surgery Verification (GSV) application, site review, and efforts required to maintain verification.
  • Support work to achieve and maintain compliance with all ACS GSV standards
  • Coordinate completion and submission of initial Geriatric Surgery Verification (GSV) application
  • Coordinate site visit by the American College of Surgeons for GSV
  • Maintain updated records for the GSV re-application and site visits which must occur every three years. This includes monitoring data collection and development/organization of deliverables.
  • Oversee ongoing data abstraction and entry, data management and reporting, and dashboard development to meet GSV standards and to support quality and process improvement for both BWH geriatric surgical care and the Geriatric Surgery Quality Committee
  • Collaborate with surgical practices, pre-operative clinics, inpatient ancillary services, and primary care clinics at the Brigham to support process development and interdisciplinary education around high quality geriatric care
  • Ensure patients receive the highest quality experience
Other duties as assigned

  • BS required, MS in healthcare, public health, business, or related field, preferred
  • Three to five years of administrative or project management experience in clinical care or biomedical research, preferred
Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills including but not limited to: communicating in person, by phone and by email with organizational leaders and professionals, compiling written reports, and developing presentations
  • Ability to work independently, troubleshoot, and problem solve
  • Ability to work in a matrixed healthcare environment with colleagues and collaborators from a variety of disciplines
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams
Preferred Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
  • Competency with Epic and utilizing health care data
  • Experience with financial management such as creating budgets and monitoring expenses
