Brief Role Description

This role has been created with the responsibilities of managing critical NPD projects, overseeing and improving core NPD project portfolio health, and developing and improving NPD process and tools. Through a combination of strong project management and team leadership competencies, this role will work cross functionally throughout the Rehrig Pacific organization on the development and delivery of core products 1-2 years out.

Key Accountabilities

Project Management- Directly serve as project manager for critical to the business projects and programs. (eg. Amazon, Walmart, Tosca, etc...)

  • Foster a culture of project success.
  • Lead project teams through the new product development process: planning, concept, development, production readiness, and commercialization as well as the gate review process.
  • Ensure that the project scope is defined and controlled. Align the project team to the scope
  • When necessary, develop and manage project budget.
  • Ensure high performance project teams are in place and team members are held accountable to keep projects on track.
  • Develop and maintain project plan and schedule working collaboratively with the project team. Schedule and facilitate reoccurring project team meetings to review actual versus planned schedule.
  • Drive projects to the defined plans and schedules. Work with cross functional team members to predict, mitigate, and address risks.
  • Lead the project team in the identification of project risks and facilitate the development and execution of a mitigation plan when necessary.
  • Lead project teams to consensus, facilitating the internal resolution of team conflicts, elevating when necessary.
  • Create an environment which encourages collaboration and open communication amongst the team as well as drives individual accountability and ownership.
  • Gain commitment from cross functional managers on project resource allocation and alignment of key accountabilities for their respective team members

Portfolio Management- Monitor, evaluate, create visibility to and drive the improvement of overall project portfolio health for the core plastics category.
  • Identify at risk projects and work with phase leads, project team members, design managers, and director of design engineering to develop and implement countermeasures to unblock projects.
  • Escalate unresolved, critical project issues through the organization's management structure to the President and his leadership team if required.
  • Provide the organization with visibility to the overall health of the core project portfolio. (eg. executive team, business unit VPs, Sr. VP of NPD, and Sr. Mgr. of PMO.
  • Develop and track project performance metrics and provide status reports to drive overall improvement of the project portfolio.
  • Usher the organization through the gate review process. Ensure that all necessary development steps have been completed and that the team has stakeholder approval to enter the next development phase.

Process and Tools- Drive the development and implementation of world-class project management capabilities within Rehrig Pacific.
  • Create, improve, and implement new sub processes to support the overall corporate NPD process.
  • Support other functions with the development of complimenting NPD sub processes: Design, Sales, Operations, etc.)
  • Educate the organization on the NPD process. Provide ongoing training to ensure understanding of and conformance to the NPD process.
  • Serve as an NPD process SME to the organization. Support project team members, phase leads, and leadership by shepherding them through the NPD process when assistance or guidance is necessary.
  • Develop, implement, and manage project document control process ensuring that vital project documents are maintained.
  • Explore, develop, maintain, and improve portfolio management tools as well as project management tools for both PMO and non-PMO led projects.

Build and maintain healthy cross functional relationships with project team members and Rehrig leadership team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience - Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical degree.
  • PMP certification desired.
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple product development projects and teams simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated mastery in the application of project management tools and techniques including risk management, resource planning, and conflict resolution.
  • Proven team leadership experience working collaboratively both vertically and horizontally throughout an organization.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and facilitate cross functional project teams to overcome challenges and achieve success.
  • In depth knowledge of the new product development process and the stages which it encompasses.
  • Working experience as a design engineer or similar product design role is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with an understanding of different manufacturing processes such as welding, machining, and plastic injection molding.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite: Excel, Word, and Power Point.
  • Experience utilizing MS Project or similar project management software to develop and maintain project schedule and manage resource allocation.
