Your role:

Position primarily involves the safe and efficient manufacturing of API's according to cGMP requirements. The role of Production Scientist is an iterative expansion of all other Production Scientist positions, and is primarily focused on developing, performing, and improving new and complex production operations to support the end users and patients of the compounds produced at MilliporeSigma. These responsibilities include but are not limited to creating/executing new production procedures and supporting documentation, driving high level safety and process improvement within the manufacturing environment, and promote collaboration from within the organization.

  • Demonstrate proper lab safety practices, and work in accordance with FDA, OSHA, EPA, DNR, DOT, and other regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Function as a primary operator on any project or task with minimal supervision.
  • Assume shift change responsibilities in the absence of supervisor.
  • Effectively troubleshoot equipment obstacles and process complications with little to no assistance from a supervisor.
  • Perform and author deviation investigation reports of major impact/scope.
  • Create operating procedures for new equipment and processes with little to no assistance from a supervisor.
  • Function as a tier 3 project lead, as defined by department management.
  • Serve as a trainer for tier 1 projects.
  • Act as a reference for junior project leads to train or assist in completing their responsibilities.
  • Support project leads by effectively coordinating daily project related tasks outside of direct lab work.
  • Function as subject matter expert for equipment or complex process (changeover, change control, etc).
  • Lead a complex process improvement initiative with minimal supervisor support.
  • Productively collaborate with other departments to accomplish common site goals.
  • Mentor experienced staff by performing coaching style interactions and providing supplemental technical training as needed.
  • Actively participate in internal and/or external calls and interactions as a representative of manufacturing for process specific questions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to balance a diverse workload and effective time management.
  • Independently execute daily responsibilities in accordance with approved standard operating procedures.

Who you are:

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related Life Science
  • 3+ years of regulated pharmaceutical or chemical production manufacturing experience
OR
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 8+ years of regulated pharmaceutical or chemical production manufacturing experience

Essential and Critical Skills:
  • Ability to read and understand written protocols
  • Strong computer literacy (Microsoft Office and Outlook tools, Electronic Document Management Systems, etc.)
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to write technical documents
  • Mechanical and technical aptitude
  • Able to operate hand tools, calculators and weighing / measuring devices
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Possess a high degree of motivation and are a self-starter
  • Ability to multi-task while paying close attention to detail
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds with the assistance of equipment or teammates as necessary

Additional Local Needs:
  • Must be willing to work with highly potent / hazardous materials
  • Able to utilize proper personal protective equipment which could include but is not limited to:
    • Respiratory protection (dust masks, half/full face respirators, supplied air, etc)
    • MilliporeSigma issued work uniforms
    • Lab Coats
    • Full body protection (disposable coveralls, hazmat suits, etc)
