Conducts thermal related New Product Introduction activities to meet the needs of our customers. The main objective is the development of products or thermal solutions that best meet our customer's requirements using basic heat transfer principles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Heat Transfer: Demonstrate an intimate understanding of conduction, convection and radiation heat transfer.

2. Solid Modeling: Designing products with an approved solid modeling program and creating properly dimensioned drawings to geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) standards (ANSI/ASME Y14.5M-1994).

3. Technical Writing: Capable of writing technical reports, proposals, journal papers, and technical articles with minimal review. Possessing good writing skills is an important capability at this level.

4. Presentation Skills: Capable of independently preparing and presenting technical and company background presentations and briefings. Command of professional oral and presentation skills is an important capability at this level.

5. Sales Support: Supports sales through proposal writing, conducting analysis, and generating solutions to customer's requirements, preparing datasheets, customer visits and preparing cost/bid support information.

6. "Hands On" related duties (Minimum of 25% of time): Most of Aavid's engineering project work involves the design, fabrication and testing of complex prototype hardware. As a result, Aavid encourages "Hands-on" engineering activity. As a result, the engineer will plan and direct technicians or other engineering staff in conducting laboratory work and experiments. This work may involve conducting complex thermal related experiments to test, prove, or modify theoretical propositions on the basis of research findings and experiences of other researchers in related technological areas. As a result, an engineer is expected to perform work in the laboratory by assisting other engineers or technicians in the fabrication, test and delivery of prototype hardware. This "Hands-on" experience is a valuable learning step as the engineer's career progresses. This work involves:

6.1. Machining

6.2. Brazing (torch and atmosphere furnaces)

6.3. Welding

6.4. Operation of Furnaces

6.5. Assembly work

6.6. Test setup and testing using developed plans and experimental test programs and fabrication procedures. Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.

6.7. Minor electrical work

PREFERRED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

1. Two Phase Cooling: Experience working with heat pipe and vapor chambers in cooling electronics. Understanding of the underlying physics and thermal modeling characteristics associated with these two-phase products.

2. CFD Software: Capable of modeling electronic cooling simulations in either FloTherm or Star CCM plus.

3. FEA Analysis: Ability to create FEA models for analysis in SolidWorks or ANSYS.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

1. Delivery Schedules: Ensures that customer deliveries are met on time. Deliverables include hardware, reports, technical date, proposals, etc. If dates are in jeopardy of falling behind (i.e. not On-Time), notifies Sr. Management immediately to ensure resources are properly applied to project and schedule is restored.

2. Quality: Ensures prototype/pre-production units fabricated under their control meet customer and Aavid quality specifications/expectations. When necessary, this should be coordinated with Aavid's Quality Department.

3. Customer Communication: Ensures that the customer is notified of any technical or delivery changes/problems immediately upon discovery. Any communication to the customer shall be coordinated with the proper Business Development Executive.

4. Financial: Responsible for ensuring each project they are personally responsible for meets the targeted cost budget.

5. Intellectual Property: Actively maintains control of company related intellectual property, trade secrets and patents. Assures that all new inventions are documented in an Invention Disclosure, IDI, Form and submitted to the patent committee.
