About the team:
The Global Purchasing and Supply Chain IT team provides the technology innovation behind one of the world's largest digital supply chains, with a network of 182 plants, 650 logistics service providers and 3,100 suppliers to build 9 million vehicles and deliver to over 15,000 dealers worldwide. IT integrates the enterprise to make this happen. Our industry-leading team of analysts, developers, engineers, and architects develop, test, and deploy the technology that drives GM. This is an expansive team that is looking for a dynamic and critical team member.

About the role and responsibilities:
The Lead Software Developer is responsible for designing and developing enterprise applications using sound, repeatable, industry best practices and in accordance with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or other Agile methodologies. In addition to designing and developing high quality code, the role requires leading team(s) of developers, contributing to portfolio planning by sizing future initiatives, developing automated tests, implementing CI/CD pipelines, performing project administration and keeping Multi-functional collaboration with other development teams and/or support functions, prioritization of work, supporting performance evaluation and removing roadblocks

  • You will bring broad software project delivery experience in leading technical efforts developing applications using a variety of tools, languages, frameworks and technologies
  • Full lifecycle application development using standard frameworks and coding standards/patterns
  • Demonstrate mastery of numerous programming languages, tools and/or technologies
  • Experienced knowledge of maintaining and debugging live software systems. Proactively engage in the remediation of software issues related to code or solutions quality, security, and/or pattern/frameworks and software usability or end user related issues
  • Performance tuning, improvement, balancing, usability, automation.
  • Design Integration Solutions or Integrate software with existing or new software/systems
  • Maintain standards compliance
  • Proactively engage in the remediation of software issues related to code quality, security, and/or pattern/frameworks.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, coaching and/or training to software developers and other team members as appropriate. Holds themselves and others accountable for demonstrating GMs values and cultural behaviors. Models GM behaviors and crafts a winning culture.
  • Automate unit/end-to-end testing of software systems within their domain, focused on software quality and maintainability (automated unit test scripts as part of coding and development of multi-layer automated testing cases - Layer 2: Integration and Layer 3 and 4 - UI/UX).
  • Ensure development artifacts are in alignment with patterns/ frameworks designed by software engineering teams
  • Document software code and ensure that technical documentation i.e. configuration guides, install guides meet requirements

Additional Job Description

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum 10+ years experience designing, developing and supporting enterprise IT applications

Minimum 5+ years experience as a development lead or solution architect

Languages/Frameworks: Java, SpringBoot, Angular, React, Javascript, Spring MVC

Databases: Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, PostgreSQL (highly recommended, at least 2 out of 4)
Web Application Servers: WebLogic, TomCat
Methodologies: Agile, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)


  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline preferred or equivalent experience required.
  • Possess broad software project delivery experience in leading technical efforts developing applications using a variety of tools, languages, frameworks and technologies
  • Experience or familiarity with Supply Chain business domain
  • Experience with resilient application design and secure coding practices
  • Knowledge of database modeling and data structure principles, techniques and best practices.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, self-describing
  • Experience implementing domain driven design using behavior driven development, integrating with web services (JSON + SOAP), website performance tuning
  • Expertise leveraging Object Oriented Programming methodologies and design patterns including domain-driven design, microservices, cloud native (12 + 3 factor), service mesh and cloud design patterns.
  • Expert knowledge of standard development tools.
  • Expertise in end-to-end applications hosted on PCF, or other PaaS environments and Kubernetes with a focus on scalability, high availability, and fault tolerance
  • Creating self-contained, reusable, and testable modules and components in frontend and backend work
  • Proven experience diagnosing issues from browser to infrastructure to network to database and all the way back
  • Creative problem-solving skills that deliver elegant solutions to complex issues
  • Possess excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on verbal and written communication.
  • Strong teamwork focus (live by the team, die by the team) and the ability to foster collaboration within and across teams
  • Ability to optimize the performance of code.
  • Understands code quality analysis results and remediation mechanisms
  • Understands security risks for applications and code remediation techniques

Preferred Requirements:

APIs, Swagger/OpenAPI specifications

Familiarity with code collaboration platforms such as Bitbucket and Azure/TFS and submitting/reviewing/approving Pull Requests/Merge Requests.
