JOB PURPOSE:

Developscomponents and systemsfor products beingcreatedfor the Toro Company.Assist management with the identification, development andimplementation of new product conceptsrelated to Electrification, Automation,Connectivity and Control.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead electrical development ofmachines, subsystems and components for next generation products.Design, constructs,and tests working prototypes of electrical products or systems adhering to the requirement of the product specificationsand customer requirements.
  • Assist product managementin definition and specification ofnew products and features.
  • Suggests ideas for new technological developments, components, concepts, materials processes to maintain competitive advantage. Suggests improvements for designs and/or design processes for Toro products.

  • Designs to applicable regulatory standards i.e.,IEC,C.S.A., U.L.,and/or other applicablesafety, industry or Toro standards. Works with theappropriateagencies to provide certification within project timeline.
  • Performs engineering analysis to predict the behavior and failure modes of the proposed designs. Analysis tools may includemodel based analysisor electronic simulation programs.
  • Collaboratewith other project design engineers, marketing, research engineers, designers and others on proposed product designs. May be responsible for the work direction of designers, drafters, contract/consulting personnel and othersas needed.
  • Responsible for drawing package, bill of material and product specification.
  • Works with test engineer(s)and technicians to develop tests, which simulate the requirements of the customer. Evaluates test data and develops design revisions to solve problems. Works withManufacturing, Test, Quality Control toensure proper testing of components or assembliesin productionwhere necessary.
  • Applies the "Total Quality" principals in the daily performance of the job.
  • Provides current product support to areas such as but not exclusively: Legal, Test, Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Service.
  • Create or lead software development required to implement product concepts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB DIMENSIONS:

  • Travel to test sites, distributors, customers, vendors, manufacturing facilities, and others as required(5-10%)
  • Ability to work with others or in teams to accomplish goals. Includes task and/or project leadership.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in ElectricalEngineeringfrom an ABET accredited university.
  • Minimum8+yearsofexperience inelectrical high volume consumerproduct development.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to create and analyze component or complete product designs with individual initiative.
  • Must be able todirect the work of drafters, designers and technicians.
  • Must have demonstrated a high level ofproductivity and competency in the execution of duties.
  • Must be able to work directly with vendors, contract resources, and internal and external experts in design process.
  • Must be able to design and follow electrical products through IEC, C.S.A., UL, and other applicable safety, industry or Toro internal standards certifications.
  • Specific experienceimplementing technologies such as:BLDCmotors,lithium batteriesand BMS,connectivity(CAN, wireless),orAutomationofmobile equipmentis preferred.
