As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients.

Dr. James Herman at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine Department of Pharmacology & Systems Physiology is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow to work on their recently funded multi-PI NIH grant. The project explores the idea that altered activity in brain stress-reward circuits drives the stress-buffering effects of pleasurable behaviors. More specifically, it identifies the neurocircuit mechanisms by which chronic engagement with a natural (food) reward protects from the adverse consequences of chronic stress on anxiety- and sociability-related behaviors. The experiments use a variety of methodological approaches, including neuroanatomical tract tracing, DREADDs, and a variety of behavioral tests. The incumbent will conduct research and analyze research data and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of the University of Cincinnati.
