Planner, External ManufacturingPosition Summary

Primary Purpose
This position is responsible for managing the supply planning for Ferrara Candy Company's external manufacturers. This position manages the creation of production schedules that supports both fill rate and inventory targets and issuance of purchase orders to support externally manufactured or co-packed items. This person will provide regular status updates to management and highlight where there are risks to the plan (fill rate and inventory targets) and the recommended actions to mitigate those risks.

Major Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Review supply and demand of semi and finished goods in order to minimize the gap between available supply and expected customer demand to limit stock outs and increase service level targets for the organization.
  • Maintain rolling production forecasts with strategic external manufacturers to enable schedule adherence and attainment for the manufacturer.
  • Support the tracking and execution of production schedules via schedule adherence and attainment metrics (where applicable).
  • Review line capacity of external business partners on a tactical and strategic timeline in order to maximize service level to Distribution Centers in the system and collaborate with the procurement team for additional production needs (e.g. line capacity, increased OEE).
  • Analyze inventory levels of components for co-pack needs in order to avoid unnecessary labor and material costs. Support the cookie, everyday and seasonal business in order to validate inventory plans in line with organizational expectations.
  • Work closely with procurement analysts, category management, production planning, and procurement operations team members to optimize Planned Delivery Time, Safety Time/Actual Range of coverage, and Safety Stock requirements in order to avoid stock-outs and increase internal OEE metrics.
  • Work closely with MRP controllers (Material Planning and Material Release roles) within manufacturing plant network to expedite delivery metrics with suppliers and mandate purchase order terms and conditions to support enterprise goals.
  • Ensures adherence to all company policies and procedures.
  • Understands and demonstrates the Company's core values.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Competencies/Skills/Knowledge Required
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Strong knowledge and prior usage of SAP preferred
  • Ability to cope with fast pace, dynamic environment
  • Excellent organization and superior problem solving skills
  • Excellent, interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills are required
  • Understanding of production capacities, constraints and cost/service trade-offs
  • Detail oriented, self-starter and comfortable taking initiative, as well as capable of producing high quality results on a sustainable basis
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Excel, PowerPoint are required, including management of complex data sets


Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, or related field
  • 3 - 5 years' of experience in Demand Planning, Supply Planning, Operations Management, or related position, i.e. Business, Logistics.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite with strong emphasis on Excel skillset that includes the ability to work on large databases; merge multiple databases to create reports to compliment unique business needs.
