Position Summary:

Assists the Pharmacist in the formulation, preparation, dispensing, delivery and storage of medications and pharmaceutical supplies under direct supervision of a Pharmacist. Records and maintains records on various medications and pharmaceutical preparations. Communicates with pharmacists and nurses about medication preparation and delivery when necessary and appropriate.

Receives & process drug supplies by consistently checking drug supply orders by utilizing purchase orders and invoices in a timely manner. Adheres to controlled substances policies and procedures. Performs compounding/prepacking to support the drug delivery system by demonstrating competency in understanding of weight and measures and prepares labels that are legible and accurate. Prepares parenteral medications by using aseptic technique and appropriately records date, time, initials as required. Supports drug distribution by performing scheduled deliveries and fill Pyxis orders accurately.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Counts, packages, labels unit doses for inspection by pharmacist. Fills routine orders for non-prescription pharmaceuticals. Replenishes medicine supply carts for nursing units. Delivers orders to nursing units. Picks up pharmacy sheets from various areas.
• Maintains records on all drugs delivered to pharmacy. Stores incoming merchandise in proper locations as instructed. Informs supervisor of stock needs, stock shortages.
• Prepares and files reports, completes forms as directed.
• Maintains established pharmaceutical policies, procedures, objectives, and quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control.
• Cleans equipment used in the performance of duties. Assists in the care and maintenance of other equipment and supplies.
• Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Education:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Licensure/Certification:

Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the MD Board of Pharmacy and have a current PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) certification.

Work Experience:

Six months of previous experience preferred.

Skills:

• Work requires the skills to read and understand instructions, add and subtract numbers, and make comparisons between numbers and letters.
• Work requires the ability to understand and respond to simple written or verbal instructions. Incumbents must respond appropriately to instructions, questions or requests for information. Work occasionally requires contact with patients and/or visitors which involves courtesy.

Full Time (40 hours)
