SUMMARY

The Payroll Clerk will process weekly payroll and maintain employee time records.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following, but not limited to:

  • Enters maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employees’ hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
  • Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, and other deductions.
  • Reconciles payroll to the general ledger and monthly bank statements.
  • Payroll functions must be completed in accordance with established policies and procedures.Issues, or reissues, physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
  • Records and processes federal and state payroll tax deposits.
  • Ensure that Management is appropriately and timely informed.
  • Ensure that the human resource/payroll information system functions smoothly. Personnel data and statistics are efficiently recorded, stored, and retrieved in accordance with established policies and federal and state regulations.
  • Ensure that all confidential information is always guarded and that confidential information is not discussed with anyone other than a cleared team member.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or CERTIFICATION:


  • High school diploma or equivalent required.




REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

  • Excellent skills using MS Word, Excel, Access, and Internet Explorer.
  • Strong skills using and understanding the flow of transactions in an integrated and automated payroll accounting system.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:


  • Two years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping with at least six months of experience in payroll preferred.


SKILLS and/or ABILITIES:
  • Well organized.
  • Accurate and attentive to detail.
  • Excellent communications and public relations abilities.
  • Strong typing and computer application skills.
  • Proficient in the use of a Human Resources Information System.
  • Ability to assist and support others.
  • Able to operate a telephone, PC, copier, and other basic business machines.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:

Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 30 lbs. of force occasionally for office supplies and equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Ability to work in an office setting.
  • Position may require extended hours including evenings and weekends, travel to multiple worksites, and occasional out-of-town travel.
