Ellison 8 is a thirty six bed adult Cardiac Surgical Step Down Unit. Patients are primarily admitted post operatively from the Blake 8 - Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Patients are also admitted pre-op for cardiac surgery. Common diagnoses include coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, aortic disease, congenital heart disease, lethal arrhythmias, S/P coronary bypass graft, S/P valve replacement, ACID placement, and permanent pacemaker placement.

Under the direction of a registered nurse (RN), the Patient Care Associate (PCA) assists the multi-disciplinary health care team in clinical support functions to promote a safe, compassionate patient care environment. PCA assists patients with daily living needs, monitoring & reading vital signs, drawing blood, and obtaining EKGs. Responds to patient requests in a timely manner, safeguarding patient confidentiality, monitoring patient safety, and always communicating in a respectful.

Qualifications
Certification as a Nursing Assistant at time of hire or enrolled and/or completed a professional nursing program and able to complete the PCA skills/tasks list. HS Diploma required. Current CPR certification.
