Description:
The Transcriptionist listens to dictation from Dieners, Pathology Assistant, and Pathologists on Histology and Cytology, and types that information into a report format that is physician ready. The transcriptionist handles calls from physicians with needing information the Histology and Cytology reports or slides. The transcriptionist coordinate office duty flow among the Pathologists that impact report turnaround time.
Education
Minimum High School graduate or equivalent with courses in medical terminology, transcription and 60 WPM typing.

Minimum
Preferred Typing experience from head set system.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Minimum Need to have keyboard skills for typing on computer.
Preferred Customer service skills, troubleshooting skills.
Physical/Mental (Enter activity and frequency - seldom, occasionally, frequently and constantly)
Minimum Needs to be able to endure long periods of standing, bending, walking and sitting. Should be able to work well under pressure. High level of concentration required in order to keep the work area flowing smoothly.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The conditions are fast paced with moderate to high stress. It is volume driven work and a high level of quality is necessary. It requires the ability to multi-task, prioritize and organize. The conditions require the ability to work as a team and independently within each shift of work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Able to transcribe reports in a quick and accurate manner.
• Able to operate basic office equipment - i.e. fax, dictation, printers, copiers.
• Able to prepare reports, slides, block or tissue to outside consulting labs.
• Must be able to do analytical functions as calculating and correlating of information.
• Must understand and be able to use computer systems.
• Must be able to multi-task under a volume based work environment.
• Must be able to organize and prioritize work to meet customer needs.
• Must be a team player, able to flex out and help with completing work as soon as possible.
• Must demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, to patients, clients, hospital and laboratory staff.
• Must be able to demonstrate good customer service skills.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
