The Paralegal assists the General Counsel and/or Deputy General Counsel. This role will take minutes at various Cenlar Board and Executive Committee meetings. The role provides legal support on all litigation matters. Additionally, this position interfaces with internal and external attorneys within the Legal Department and business partners in the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend various Board and Executive Committee meetings by taking accurate meeting minutes
  • Assist with corporate governance issues
  • Assist Cenlar's in-house counsel in obtaining necessary documents and information from Operations and clients related to litigation
  • Assist with responding to inquiries and requests from Operations and clients regarding legal matters
  • Independently prepare monthly litigation reports, including client litigation reports
  • Assist with responses to audit requests from clients and regulators
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of discovery responses, verifications and affidavits
  • Handling of and timely responding to subpoenas for documents
  • Handling of and timely responding to third party witness subpoenas and preparing third party witness agreements related to the same
  • Work with internal legal staff and business partners to achieve timely results
  • Assist in the preparation for client meetings, corporate meetings, and trials
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, include but not limited to compliance and operational risk. Demonstrate consideration for Cenlar's reputation as well as our clients, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards
  • Other duties as assigned to provide support to Legal on other ad hoc legal litigation support
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Paralegal certificate preferred
  • Strong technical knowledge, including knowledge of mortgage servicing and related laws
  • Advanced research skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Access; SharePoint experience preferred
  • Exercise good judgment and escalate matters appropriately
  • Knowledge of real estate law, including foreclosure and bankruptcy, consumer credit laws and regulations as well as understanding of litigation procedures
