Requirements

Internship Program Overview

This research internship opportunity is available to Master’s or PhD level students immediately post-graduation or during the last semester prior to graduation. The one-semester internship is paid, and each intern will acquire competencies in at least one of the following core areas:
  • Performs critical review and synthesis of the health care literature to support and assess federal quality programs.
  • Obtains knowledge of ESRD networks, dialysis facilities, and treatment for dialysis and kidney transplant patients.
Interns will be oriented to the core competencies. Once assigned to an HSAG project, each intern will:
  • Be assigned an HSAG mentor to serve as a day-to-day point of contact.
  • Meet with the project team and begin participating in all project team meetings. Ability to make presentations and communicate project results to staff.
  • Perform assignments and prepare work products that contribute to the overall project.
Examples of assignments include but are not limited to the following:
  • Conduct literature reviews and web-based searches focused on clinical quality measurement, CMS quality payment programs, and the use of healthcare data.
  • Drafting public-facing documents, both technical and non-technical.
  • Synthesize and summarize information contained in legislative mandates and proposed and final rules.
  • Provide content to support the creation of research papers, policy briefs and option papers.
