SUMMARY
The Outside Plant Engineer I provides support to Chickasaw Network Services, LLC (CNS), a Telecom and Utility Construction Company. This position is responsible for fiber optic and copper route engineering, pole line and underground route field documentation, construction permits, project tracking, as-built documentation and electronic records preparation in accordance with company policies, procedures and quality standards, while meeting customer delivery requirements. This position also works with network planning, central office, transmission and operations personnel to support growth, replacements and upgrades of telecommunications plant facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Engineers aerial, underground and inside fiber optic routes and road moves.

Performs copper telephone cable design including size and gauge, cross box design and terminals. Rearrangements including cut-overs, pair conditioning, cable assignments, loop make ups, bridge taps and splice documents.

Develops all projects to meet or exceed minimum specifications of Construction Policies, NESC, NEC, OSHA, State, County and all other applicable agencies.

Maintains a high level of productivity, assuring timeframes are met for projects occurring simultaneously and tracks and generates reports on project status.

Prepares, organizes and maintains project documentation, maps and CAD drawings. Creates drawings and records of fiber and copper routes, splice locations, construction notes, bills of materials and project overviews.

Research's and acquires state and local permits, rights of way and easement agreements.

Responds to Department of Transportation (DOT) requests for information and plans facility relocations.

Reviews and records As-Built documentation.

Attends customer meetings. Performs site surveys and walk-outs as necessary to comply with customer requirements and time frames.

Works with multiple customers and prepares all deliverables within each customer's own specifications.

Provides job training for staff to achieve project goals.

Performs routine inspection of OSP networks.

Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to any training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Associate degree or (2) years' experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree may be substituted for years of experience. Experience in planning copper and fiber optic network additions and estimating OSP projects by detail. Previous experience using telecommunications engineering systems such as: Infinium, M6, FROGS/Spatial Engineer (Frontier AutoCAD based GIS), DPI/Endeavor and Varasset is preferred. Previous experience using telecom engineering systems, such as: ARAMIS-DT, MIC, IMAGINE, Fireworks, Bidmaster, NDS, JDS and LFACS is desired.

CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATION
Valid Class A Driver's License Required or ability to acquire within 90 days
Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing

Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical specifications, professional documentation and blueprints
Demonstrated skill in the use of AutoCAD, MicroStation, MS Office Suite, Pole Analysis software, GPS handheld systems, and other industry-related hardware and software are each considered a plus
Ability to write reports, correspondence and documentation
Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, customers and other employees of the organization
Ability to travel out of town and overnight may be required
Knowledge of health and safety regulations, practices and procedures
Ability to read and interpret construction and engineering plans
Ability to research land and plat information and communicate design prints
Ability to accurately sketch and record field notes and computations for as-builts
Ability to perform and/or instruct entry-level skills and practices as required
Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Frequently uses the lower extremities and back muscles and moving on foot, particularly for long distances. May have exposure to indoor/outdoor adverse weather conditions. Frequent exposure to noise - workers must wear protective hearing equipment or frequently shout to be heard above the ambient noise level. Exposure to pollutants or allergens which can adversely affect the skin and/or the respiratory system such as gases, smoke, odors, mists, fumes, dust, chemicals, oils, or solvents. Exposure to hazardous working conditions including moving machinery, electricity and/or working in high places. May be exposed to hot objects, flames, or sparks. The job requires the use of protective equipment such as hard hats, respirators, aprons, gloves, special clothing, safety shoes and safety glasses.
