Job Summary/Responsibilities:

The Victim Advocate provides trauma informed crisis intervention services to members of the UNF community who have experienced actual or threatened harm. This position provides comprehensive services and care for crime survivors throughout their healing journey. This includes providing: non-judgemental emotional support, explanation of rights and options and accompaniment through criminal justice, Title IX and Student Conduct processes. Responsibilities include:

  • Provide crisis line and office coverage including answering calls and assisting walk-ins
  • Assess the immediate crisis to ascertain status and appropriate interventions
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files and documentation of services
  • Work with crime survivors to develop case management and safety plans
  • Maintain confidentiality of individuals receiving services and case file information in accordance with university, state and federal laws
  • Provide trauma informed survivor centered services to members of the university community who have experienced
  • Provide options and referrals to address survivor needs
  • Provide criminal justice advocacy
  • Educate survivors on the dynamics of interpersonal violence and victimization
  • Provide follow-up contacts
  • Maintain referral database
  • Work collaboratively with Women's Center staff to provide outreach on victim advocacy and department services
  • Work collaborative with University Police Department, Dean of Students, Counseling Center, Office of Equal Opportunity and Inclusion, Housing and Residence Life and other campus areas to meet student concerns and provide accommodations
  • Assist with the development and facilitation of educational presentations and programs
  • Represent the Women's Center on various campus and community committees

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of criminal justice processes
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of sexual violence, domestic/dating violence, stalking and other types of victimization
  • Experience working with individuals from marginalized and historically underrepresented backgrounds (racial/ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, religious, etc.)
  • Experience providing trauma informed services
  • Effective communication and time management skills
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and advocacy skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in addressing the needs of students
  • Ability to remain calm and utilize sound judgment in crisis situations
  • Reliable transportation is needed
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior victim advocacy experience
  • Public speaking experience
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish speaker) preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services or a related field and 1 year of experience in victim/survivor services.

A CSA is not expected to investigate or determine whether a criminal incident actually took place. A CSA's responsibility is a duty to report.
