This part-time opportunity is targeted to current students seeking to gain experience in accounting and business in a fast-paced, proactive, professional environment. Gain insight into the financial operations of a dynamic university enterprise with an operating budget of over $2 billion. We offer a flexible schedule within standard working hours (8am-5pm, approximately 20 hours per week), with potential to complete job duties outside of standard working hours as well work remotely upon completion of training and satisfactory work performance. Once fully onboarded, cross-train and job shadow with other areas to maximize exposure to accounting and finance concepts and practices, as well as round out your skills and experience. Successful candidates may be placed in one of several areas within the Controller's Office, including Accounts Payable & Disbursement Services, Student Business Services, Accounting & Reporting Services, Revenue Accounting Services, and more.

Responsibilities

A sampling of potential assignments are listed below:

  • Process travel and accounts payable transactions, prepare and review reports, and provide customer service to stakeholders for travel and accounts payable activities.
  • Prepare student financial system deposits, returns, and transfers of funds as needed, ensuring all are completed accurately and timely.
  • Carry out tasks related to auxiliary billing and accounts receivable processing. Maintain customers, monitor and update internal, auxiliary purchase orders, assist departments in entering billing data, and respond to customer inquiries related to payment sand accounts receivable activities.
  • Review and process entries to the university ledger, including interdepartmental requisitions and transfers, third party interface journals, expenditure refunds, and other miscellaneous journals and corrections.
  • Review and process deposits of various types, including EFT, departmental credit card, eCommerce auxiliary payments, deposits processed through university drop box or via armored car courier, or directly to the bank via in person or remote deposit.
  • Assist in tagging assets and creating asset records in the university's financial system. Provides support in annual property inventory processes, including reviewing physical assets and completed inventory forms.
  • Complete daily and periodic reviews, reconciliations, and reports.
  • Review the group inbox(es) for inquiries from internal and external stakeholders. Responds to requests for additional information timely and accurately.
  • Perform other duties as directed, which may include assisting with special projects, testing transactions during system upgrades and troubleshooting, documenting business processes and maintaining desktop procedures, designing and preparing reports, assisting in making and implementing recommendations for process improvements, and other assignments as needed.
Qualifications

High diploma or equivalency.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment.
  • Ability to compile, review, and reconcile data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Experience with computer technologies and applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, PowerBI, or comparable software applications.
Preferred
  • Successful completion of one or more courses related to business practices (business communications, organizational behavior, strategic management, business and society, leadership in business, etc.) and/or experience working in an office setting.
  • Successful completion of one or more courses related to finance, accounting, and/or management information systems (financial accounting, managerial accounting, business statistics, business analytics, quantitative methods for business decisions, cost accounting, auditing theory, accounting information systems, etc.).
Other Information

Areas within the Controller's Office include Disbursement Services, Student Business Services, Auxiliary Accounting, Deposit Accounting, Accounting Services, and Asset Accounting. Duties and assigned area vary based upon needs of the Controller's Office and consider student interests, internship requirements, training needs, etc.

Anticipated Salary Range
