Position Overview

The Operations Support Manager is a cement technology expert with excellent communication skills that provides strategic insight and support to the cement division initiatives, leading the implementation of continuous improvement projects. He/she evaluates the plant's KPIs and unit operations efficiencies providing technical support and managing projects to achieve world-class performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and direction in the operations information and reporting systems, standardizing metrics, KPIs, and reporting practices among the division cement plants.
  • Provides technical support to plant's management team in troubleshooting complex problems with a preventive approach.
  • Works with plant management teams to develop short and long-range operational and performance objectives.
  • Regularly reviews plant performance compared to achieving KPI's, pursuing continuous improvement plans and strategies to achieve world class performance in all aspects of cement manufacturing.
  • Collaborates with plant teams to improve performance through ongoing education, training and development of key personnel, quality hiring and succession and workforce planning.
  • Communicates regularly with other managers and employees within the plant to ensure information is communicated in a timely manner.
  • Actively participates in the plants' safety audits and programs.
  • Provides expert supervision to specific areas and improvement projects during kilns and mills outages.
  • Manages assigned projects from concept to commissioning.
  • Maintains a close working relationship with Sales & Marketing, Logistics & Terminals, and other areas of the cement division as needed.
Education
  • Bachelor's or Master's Science Degree in chemistry or engineering, or demonstrated experience.
  • Minimum of 10-year proven experience in different roles in a cement plant.
  • Relevant experience managing projects of up to five million dollars.
Other Requirements
  • In depth knowledge of the cement manufacturing process and technologies.
  • Audits and ensures Standard Operating Procedures for critical plant activities are effective and current.
  • Demonstrated written communication skills
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills
  • Willingness to embrace continuous improvement process to achieve world class performance
  • Ability to work with OEM's and other suppliers to evaluate new equipment and process that will help improve plant operations.
  • Ability to inspire and develop staff
  • Demonstrates a high commitment to quality
