Position: Operations Manager, Resource Planning

Department: Distribution

Work Location: Arlington, TN

What you will be doing:

This strategic role is responsible for architecting and leading the operational flow of goods, services, equipment, and personnel throughout the operation to effectively achieve internal and external commitments (Key performance indicators and service level agreements). The Manager, Resource Planning will enable the warehouse systems to effectively receive, put away, replenish, slot, fulfill orders, perform SSR / VAS, and process returns. A critical responsibility within this position's span of control includes the planning, review, and release of all daily orders and waves to ensure that productivity is enhanced, and capacity utilization is optimized in accordance with the established Operating Plan. Additionally, this position maintains customer requirements in conjunction with operational critical metrics and Supply Chain initiatives to achieve accurate and timely outbound shipments. You'll be accountable for the proper configuration of shop floor tools (WMS, WCS, Etc.) to ensure optimal functionality within the operation. This position is the subject matter specialist and domain specialist for warehouse systems.

  • Monitors and assesses Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) to determine efficiency of workflow
  • Identifies inefficiencies in workflow; advising wave and labor adjustments as needed
  • Monitors order queue and ensures balance between replenishment, picking, packing, and shipping. Uses forecasts to support slotting efforts and to build labor plans
  • Participates in frequent configuration testing of WMS and WCS for efficiencies, post system changes
  • Build daily wave release plans to ensure orders are available to the operation to meet expected service level agreements
  • Ensure daily wave release plans are in alignment with the shipping schedule and coordinated with the routing team to allow for optimal building flow and ensure timely and accurate shipments for all accounts
  • Supervise daily waving goals to ensure targets and critical metrics are achieved
  • Manage and create transparency to problem orders, in a proactive and timely manner, while working to resolve and communicate issues to partners for assistance
  • Drive Process Improvement initiatives that support Performance Metrics, Wave Planning, Routing and Distribution
  • Work closely and collaboratively with other teams to enhance the efficiency of Wave Planning tools and processes
  • Recruit and develop the next generation of department leaders, with an emphasis on building bench strength and succession planning
  • Partner with warehouse Operations personnel to ensure facility and departmental objectives and targets are met
  • Proactively manage team and individual performance of direct and indirect reports at all levels within areas of responsibility. Work with Site Human Resources in preparing talent development and performance improvement plans.
  • Provide trouble-shooting techniques and participate on the floor in addressing process & system issues; makes sound decisions and provides direction to team when needed
  • Collaborate with business leaders regarding forecasts to anticipate current and future system and equipment modifications required to maintain cost effective operations
  • Work closely with Operations, Engineering Services, IT and other departments to improve efficiency, capacity and quality for the business
  • May perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the VP, Supply Chain Operations and Technology
  • Develop operational dashboards, write routine reports and correspondence


Skills needed to be successful in this role:
  • Use effective interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of the distribution center
  • Apply sophisticated calculations as related to productivity and throughput of replenishment, picking, packing, and shipping functions
  • Multi-tasking, time management, efficiency, relationship building, and collaboration skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organization


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2+ years related experience in operations planning
  • Use of Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Ability to apply and use analytical tools to determine decisions based on customer expectations
  • Up to 10% travel is required
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering
  • Warehouse Management Systems (WMS); Tier -1
