Job Summary/Basic Function:
A faculty member with a teaching workload that includes opportunities in both the Entry Level BSRC Program and the MSRC Program. As such, the faculty will be a content expert for select courses within both programs and will be responsible for both synchronous and asynchronous delivery of didactic content in an online setting.

Level Scope:
This opportunity is open to either the Clinical or Tenure tracks; rank offered will be commensurate with candidate background and level of experience

Essential Functions:
For this online 11-month open-rank, clinical or tenure track position, the major duties and responsibilities are teaching students in the online academic setting, advising both undergraduate and graduate students on academic progress, supervising student research projects, and engaging in professionally-related service.
Personal research requirements will vary, pursuant to either the clinical or tenure track. While they may, clinical faculty are not required to participate in research or scholarship activities as part of their regular assignment. The essential duties and responsibilities of faculty are assigned by the program director in coordination with and final approval by the department chair.

Scholarly, creative, or research activities:
Associate Professors must demonstrate a commitment to their discipline through scholarly and creative activities that fall within Boyer's four types of scholarship: (1) discovering knowledge, (2) integrating knowledge, (3) applying knowledge, and (4) scholarship of teaching.

Service:
Each faculty member participates in activities relating to university programs, courses, governance, etc., or community activities which impact on, or are impacted by, the University and which contribute to the growth and development of students, the university and the community. Faculty must demonstrate a commitment to serving Boise State University, his/her profession, and the community.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Demonstrate teaching effectiveness: utilize best practices and a professional commitment to teaching.
  • Make substantial and innovative teaching and service contributions to the programs served.
  • Develop and maintain assigned courses using appropriate educational tools and the LMS (Canvas).
  • Help graduate students formulate research projects, establish methodologies, discuss results, present and possibly publish dissertations and ensure that students' work meets the standards of the University and the discipline.
  • Provide students with constructive, encouraging, timely and corrective feedback.
  • Be professional, optimistic, encouraging, and utilize a coaching manner in all interactions.
  • Be accessible to students and respond promptly to student questions.
  • Serve as a Content Expert in specific courses and/or areas of expertise.
  • Provide input into curriculum development and implementation of courses related to both the Entry Level BSRC and MSRC curricula.
  • Provide input on Entry Level BSRC and MSRC Program student learning needs to the Program Director, the Department Chair, and the rest of the Program Team, as appropriate.
    Participate in ongoing professional development in areas of teaching, content specialty, and certifications, as appropriate.
  • Be accessible in a virtual setting consistently throughout the week to facilitate communication, accessibility, and relationship building with the faculty, staff, and students as allowed and determined by the Program Directors and/or Department Chair.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships and timely communication with the Program Directors, the Department Chair and the rest of the faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders.
  • Work collectively to build and maintain a community that celebrates and values diversity and treats all stakeholders with dignity and respect.
  • Assist with student recruitment, interviews, and academic advising.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, other department, school, college and university virtual meetings and other campus events as able, and facilitate meetings via video conference or on campus, as requested by the Program Directors and/or Department Chair.
  • Travel to Boise to interact with students, faculty, staff, and other community stakeholders.
  • Apply appropriate University, College, School, Department, and Program policies and regulations.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational and time management skills with attention to meeting deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Doctoral Degree, or ABD, in a related field
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Licensed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in the state of residence
  • At least three years of online teaching experience in a respiratory care program and experience with a Learning Management System; Canvas is preferred.
  • Proficiency in the development of learning objectives, assessment measures, and innovative curriculum design in a variety of educational environments.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring student research
  • At least 2 years of Clinical experience in adult-focused respiratory care
  • Experience with all aspects of the research process, from proposal to publication
  • Published in peer reviewed source(s) preferably in the last three years


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level
  • Experience with, or strong interest in, high fidelity simulation
  • Experience with grant writing and extramural funding
  • At least one (1) NBRC (or other health care related) specialty credential/or certificate
