Description:

Performs in the role of expert practitioner and educator within a specialized nursing field or practice area; educates and develops staff to attain essential job competencies; participates in quality improvement and research activities; consults with clinicians on complex cases by request.

Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification and Experience Required.

A. Education

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

B. Licensure / Certification

Current RN licensure in the State of Michigan.

Certification in specialty area preferred.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required if working in Critical Care or Cardiac area. Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor certification within 6 months of hire. Advanced Life Support instructor certification required for areas of clinical practice that staff certification is required, within 6 - 12 months of hire.

Solid understanding of health care standards, technologies, practices, and applicable state and federal regulations and accrediting agency requirements.

Leadership and management skills necessary to foster the growth and development of direct reports, motivate individuals and teams, and resolve problems in a diplomatic professional manner.

Interpersonal and relationship management skills necessary to effectively develop and foster collaborative working relationships with all levels of staff/management/leadership, influence results, and garner support.

Excellent oral and written communication, persuasion, negotiation and presentation skills. The incumbent must be able to clearly articulate and demonstrate commitment to care, and the mission and values of the Region and to inspire active support.

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills necessary to conceptualize ideas in an unstructured, fast-paced, dynamic and multifunctional environment requiring creativity, innovation, foresight, and mature judgment.

Willingness to operate in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals and values of CHE Trinity Health.

Knowledge of Adult Learning Principles.

D. Experience

Three years in clinical nursing practice in Adult General Medical/Surgical and/or Adult Critical Care/Emergency and/or Maternal Child Health and/or Surgical/Peri-operative area or other specialty nursing practice experience required.

Previous educational experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, preceptor, unit educator, central nursing education role or academic clinical instructor preferred.

Plans, develops, implements and evaluates clinical educational programming for specialty area; participates in and/or coordinates educational activities for specialty area and/or across nursing units; presents professional and educational programs for healthcare providers and community.

Demonstrates technical proficiency in providing patient care.

Participates in evidence based research activities and/or studies as opportunities arise. Reviews, revises and develops policies and procedures; participates as a key member of the unit/hospital based Shared Governance committee; assists in the development of protocols and guidelines related to specialty area.

Coordinates, plans, develops, implements and evaluates essential job competency assessment activities.

Responsible for maintaining competency records for assigned unit/s to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Establishes orientation program for each job class on assigned unit; provides preceptor training and developmental activities.

Acts as planner and facilitates CE application for educational offerings.

Serves as a resource to community organizations and universities for health education.

Consults on complex patient care issues at the request of healthcare staff.

Routinely participates in quality improvement initiatives; Provides education related to improvement plans.

Maintains current knowledge and incorporates both age specific and cultural considerations in patient care depending on patient populations served.

Evaluates new products and recommends changes in hospital inventory.

Supports and participates in Magnet Hospital Program activities. Is knowledgeable regarding required standards and serves as resource to staff.

Meets SJMHS Guiding Behaviors and Caring Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations. Knows, understands, incorporates and demonstrates the CHE Trinity Health Mission, Vision and Values in behavior, practices and decisions.

Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations. Trinity Health's Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.

Must be able to set and organize own work priorities, and adapt to them as they change frequently. Must be able to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in an environment that may be stressful due to time constraints.
