GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

Under general direction, operates nuclear scintillation equipment to produce clinical diagnostic films as prescribed by physicians and perform routine diagnostic procedures according to established standards and practices.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Registered by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry of Radiologist Technologist (ARRT) in Nuclear Medicine. If Oregon is the primary work state, colleague must obtain a Medical Imaging License issued by the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI) prior to hire date. If Idaho is the primary work state, colleague must obtain an Oregon license within 90 days of hire and may not provide any services in Oregon without an active Oregon license.

Colleague must obtain and maintain an active, unrestricted Oregon license prior to providing any services in Oregon.. Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from either AHA, ARC or the Military Training Network is required at hire in all units, unless currently certified in ACLS and/or PALS as defined in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.

Produces images of specified body areas as directed by the radiologist, cardiologist or physician ensuring clear and undistorted results. Positions and instructs patients regarding procedures.

Processes studies to maximize image quality following established procedures.

Prepares, cleans, and disinfects area by changing linens, stocking supplies and wiping off tables and equipment, ensuring an efficient and clean working environment according to MMC infection control policy.

Protects patients from undue exposure to radiation following the Radiation Safety Policy.

Prepares and assists in administering radioisotopes by monitoring dosages and determining any potential allergies ensuring compliance with department policies and procedures.

Competently utilizes Radiology Information System.

Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel.

Instructs and prepares patients and families for procedures.

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care issues.

Practices medical and surgical aseptic technique.

Some travel between SAHS sites may be expected.

Performs additional assignments and/or projects as outlined by the nuclear medicine regional lead.

Requires good technical, scientific and professional knowledge, as well as a high degree of familiarity and skill with radiologic procedures and related equipment. Must have good interpersonal communication skills in order to effectively instruct patients and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers. Must possess good written and oral English communication skills.
