Basic Job Functions:

Responsibilities for an NDT Weld Inspector include but are not limited to:

  • Inspect various welded parts to ensure the welds meet the necessary specifications and tolerances. This will be done by use of specialized non-destructive testing machines, gauges and other measuring instruments.
  • Work as part of the Internal Quality Team (Standards & Certifications Coordinator, Internal Audit Team, Inspectors and CWI's) to help insure we are able to maintain all the necessary accreditations and certifications.
  • Assist with and take part in performing Internal Audits as well as External Audits for other divisions.
  • Collaborating cross-departmentally, ensuring that workflow and resource allocation is efficient, orderly, and prioritized to schedule.
  • Gathering, creating, and maintaining records involving but not limited to pass/fail rates for the plant and individual teammates, logging UT hours, in process checks, fit up quality, primer quality and tolerance checks.
  • Facilitating training based on team or individual performance and evolving quality standards.
  • Seeking continuous improvement in every facet of team performance with a keen emphasis on safety, quality, cost, and productivity.
  • Assist with the writing and investigation of internal quality reports, non-conformance and IQR's.
  • Act as a backup for other Inspectors as required to ensure all necessary inspections are taking place.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to read a tape measure, micrometer and other measuring instruments.
  • Ability to read and understand part drawings.
  • NDT Level II Certification, utilizing the Ultrasonic Testing method.
  • Direct knowledge of fit up and weld standards per AWS.
  • Ability to achieve CWI, under AWS standards, within 2 years.
  • Have, or have the ability to achieve, forklift and crane certifications.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with fabrication or detailing of metal building systems components
  • Prior experience working within a defined Quality Management System and possesses a general understanding of basic Quality Control practices and guidelines.
  • Current CWI certification
  • Direct knowledge of fit up and weld standards per CWB W47.1
  • Ability to work 3rd shift
