Job Title: Multimedia Systems and Special Events Technician

Campus Location: Morristown Campus (Employees are assigned to a "home" location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)

Job Purpose: The purpose of this position is to ensure multimedia technology is operating properly in all college classrooms on all campuses. This includes providing training, operations and technical support for over 250 rooms that have audio, video, presentation, and video streaming equipment. This position is also responsible for maintaining, analyzing, and correcting any issues that arise with the aforementioned. Assists faculty, staff, students, and community groups that will use the equipment in various rooms including classrooms, conference rooms, and collaboration rooms. The position is responsible for a wide variety of software, hardware, mobile devices, and emerging technologies. Travels to multiple campuses in order to address any technology problems as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and installs classroom or presentation equipment for staff and students such as laptops, desktops, tablets, displays, Apple TV, audio/video, and multimedia equipment including 30 video streaming classrooms.
  • Provides audio, video, and presentation equipment and software support for 200 special events per year on campus. Provides support for their events including setting up the audio, video, presentation equipment operating the equipment during the event and taking down the equipment when event is complete.
  • Trains and assists end user of audio/visual presentation equipment and software. Provides the operational support and training for faculty and staff for all classrooms including video streaming classrooms.
  • Installs and tests software images for classroom and presentation environments, including specialized software required by staff and faculty.
  • Maintains and coordinates records of classroom media and communicates outdated rooms with supervisor.
  • May perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Technical College diploma in a technology related field. Career experience may be considered in lieu of degree or diploma.
  • One year of career experience in a related position
  • Basic understanding of computers, projectors, document cameras, and touch screen. Must have basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to perform live sound engineering, knowledge of multimedia software in a college setting.
  • Excellent communication skills with internal and external contacts
  • A good fundamental base in troubleshooting hardware, software, and audio or video problems.
  • Experience in handling a high volume of end-users.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years' experience in a related position
  • Prior experience in media technology, live sound production, or video production.

Leadership & Supervisory: The incumbent has no authority or responsibility for the responsibility of others, project direction, and/or program administration. Most tasks completed by an employee in this position are completed without consulting others. Resources, guidelines, and supervisor consultation are available when needed. Work is evaluated largely for progress towards completion of objectives.

Environment & Working Conditions: Working conditions in the office are clean and well-lit; limited interruptions and occasional high noise level. Travel to other campus locations could mean exposure to extreme heat, cold, or humidity.

Physical Demands (including requirements for travel or working nights/weekends/holidays):

  • Moves about campuses to trouble shoot with end-users.
  • Large amounts of time spent looking at computer monitors could lead to some eye strain, stress, or headache issues.
  • Repetitive stress injuries could occur.
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations.
  • Ability to climb up and down a ladder.
  • Ability to push and pull equipment.
  • Standing or sitting for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift equipment up to 50 pounds
