Position Overview

The Millwright is directly responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining all plant mechanical equipment, buildings, and grounds in a safe and environmentally sound manner.

The preferred candidate will have to be fully committed to engaging in safe working practices, driven to learn new processes and procedures, and have the ability to work as part of a team to achieve safety, quality and performance goals.

After successful completion of a 90-day probationary perod, employees are represented by the USW Local 1. This position works shifts, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays. The starting hourly wage is $27.08 plus shift premium and overtime rates, as applicable. Novelis offers excellent benefits, working conditions and potential for career growth. Responsibilities & Qualifications

The primary function of the millwright job is to perform necessary repairs and maintenance on machinery and within the plant facility in a safe and efficient method to ensure minimal production downtime and maximum adherence to environmental and safety guidelines. The successful candidate must have 5 years proven experience as a millwright and must be able to perform the following duties with little or no additional training:

• Receive work orders and instructions from Maintenance/Shift Leader
• Inspect mill equipment for defects such as misalignment, wear, improper lubrication, clogging and maladjustment.
• Work from blueprints, sketches, diagrams and charts to dismantle, clean, repair, replace, install, maintain, assemble and lubricate all types of mechanical equipment.
• Determine required working procedure to accomplish repairs with minimum of interruption of production.
• Adjust equipment for proper operating characteristics.
• Make temporary and permanent repairs as required.
• Assembles and aligns gears, bearings and shafts involving various types of fits.
• Change punches, dies, rails, guides and rolls as required.
• Advise if immediate shutdown of equipment is required to minimize damage or when temporary continued operation will have no harmful effect.
• Babbitt and scrape bearings as required.
• Erect scaffolds and perform rigging as required.
• Change, set up and adjust equipment in conformance to production operating requirements.
• Paint equipment and building as required; change batteries on trucks when required.
• Repair and maintain buildings and grounds as required.
• Operate simple machine tools such as drill press, pipe threading machine, power saws, etc.
• Transport tools, equipment and material to and from job as required.
• Operate all equipment to test and maintain.
• Use cranes, hoists, trucks in required performance of maintenance work.
• Diagnose trouble, renew and replace defective parts, repair hydraulics.
• Install new equipment; make modifications, repairs, maintains & installs pipe work, valves, cylinders, etc.
• Perform fabrication & repairs up to assessment level. Set up, assemble and weld parts as needed to make repairs. Clean and grind parts; weld joints as required. Use burning equipment (torch/plasma cutter) to support the work.

To be considered, the candidate must have:

• A minimum of 5 years documented experience working in a similar maintenance related function.
• The ability to safely and effectively use tools and equipment
• High school diploma or equivalent
