The Central Business Office has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Remote Call Center Customer Service Medical Collector to work in the Gables One Tower. The Medical Collector ensures that patient accounts are efficiently collected upon in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Further, the Medical Collector is in charge of all duties related to the billing and collection activities of accounts receivables. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinates the resolution of patient accounts and verifies patient's demographic and insurance information.
  • Reviews and monitors reimbursements due, and determines appropriate collection methods and account follow-up procedure.
  • Pursues insurance carries by placing phone calls, documenting work performed, and setting safeguards to ensure that payments are received.
  • Prepares monthly report for account receivables and other items assigned.
  • Reviews benefit explanations from insurance companies and takes proper actions to request adjustments or refunds when applicable.
  • Identifies trends and any problems with particular payors and reports findings to supervising staff.
  • Responds to over-the-phone and in-person inquiries from patients and insurance carriers.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: high school diploma or equivalent as well as at least one year of patient-related clerical experience within a medical setting. Possesses an understanding of medical center functions and medical collections activities. Knowledge of Managed Care, PPO, UB04, medical terminology, CPT4 codes, ICD9 codes and Third Party Payer requirements and reimbursement rules. Knowledge of contracts that are in force for hospital, physicians and the rules and guidelines that govern collections activities. Experience using a computer to include using Microsoft Excel software. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered. High School diploma or equivalent required Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
  • General knowledge of office procedures and operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.


Hourly Rate: $13.25 - $15.50 (depending on experience)
