Description
SAIC is seeking an innovative Mechanical Engineer to support payload development and integration efforts for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems. The Mechanical Engineer position will support the development, integration, testing, and technical documentation of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and related communications equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to: analyze high-level problem statements; develop conceptual solutions for consideration during team discussions; develop detailed, viable, engineering solutions from conceptual designs; generate technical documentation packages, including fabrication drawings, analysis packages, and technical briefs; interface with vendors to identify Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) components and initiate fabrication of custom components; integrate components or subsystems into system assemblies; conduct component-level lab tests and system level operational field tests; generate test plans and document test results; and thrive in a dynamic, team environment. This position will be located in the San Diego, CA area.
Job duties may include:
- Design, analysis and development of components and assemblies for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and communication payloads
- Packaging design for electrical components and systems including thermal design of cooling systems comprised of power devices and magnetics, heat sinks, and fans.
- Develop innovative thermal design solutions for managing heat loads around sensitive electronic equipment
- Perform aerodynamic and thermal simulation and analysis using hand calculations and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools
- Perform static and dynamic structural analysis using hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools
- Integration and assembly of electro-mechanical systems
- Test and evaluation of unmanned aerial systems (UAS), including development of test plans and test reports.
- Concept of Operations (CONOPS) development
- Generation of fabrication drawings using CAD software
- Interfacing with vendors to identify COTS components to meet system requirements
- Interfacing with vendors to solicit fabrication quotes for and initiate procurement of custom components.
- Active participation in team brainstorming and technical review meetings
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering; or a minimum 10 years of experience without a degree.
- Experience in mechanical aspects of electrical shielding, signal routing, and interconnects
- Proficiency in thermal management designs and modeling
- Proficiency with SolidWorks including PDM, Simulation and Flow Simulation tools
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Required clearance:
- Must have an active Interim Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
