Mechanical Drives and Lubrication Reliability Leader

Position Overview:

Novelis has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Drives and Lubrication Reliability Leader. In this roll, you would report to the Senior Manager of Reliability, for Novelis North America (NNA), and be part of the Manufacturing Excellence Group. This position is a key role of the newly developed "Reliability Center of Excellence" (RCoE) and would be considered a Subject Matter Expert (SME), for the region.

As a Mechanical Drives and Lubrication Leader, you will be responsible for improving the reliability of plant maintenance and operations, to support the high demand production levels needed to provide aluminum sheet to our customers. To achieve these goals, you will be required to coach and develop plant leadership as well as managing regional plant programs. With the new Focused 5 goals highlighting reduction of "losses", you will also be working with the plants and WCM leaders, regionally and locally, to find and minimize unplanned downtime, speed losses, total maintenance times and other non-value added work.

As this role has regional responsibility, you will be expected to travel to many of the 16 different plant locations, on a regular basis. This means that 40% to 60% of the time you could be on the road. However, considerations will be made for a good "work-life" balance. As part of this, good coordination and regular communications with each of the plant leaders will be a key part of your responsibilities and could also be performed virtually.

  • Drive improvements that promote Novelis' Focused 5 goals, with specific attention to Safety, Operational Excellence, Sustainability, People and Culture
  • Integrate World Class Manuf. And Reliability best practices into each plant's Sustaining and Strategic project improvements, relative to Mechanical Drives & Lube programs
  • Ensure plants make correct Capital investment choices around Mechanical Drives & Lubrication projects to help Novelis reduce unplanned downtime and avoid losses
  • Work with Global leaders to understand and manage Mech. Drives and Lubrication programs in NNA
  • Support initiatives to increase Capacity Release from Critical equipment in the Region, and assist with Mechanical and Lubrication Equipment Capital projects
  • Scouting for new Technologies and Best Practices
  • Evaluating the operating performance of facility systems and equipment to determine improvement potential
  • Participate in and Coach execution of RCA/RCFAs for Mech & Lubrication equipment
  • Work with the Regional and Global Reliability teams to develop Processes, Standards, Best practices and Strategies to maintain Critical Equipment, in the region
  • Support the Reliability Center of Excellence and provide regular updates and communications on projects, findings, roadblocks and support needed
Required Qualifications
  • Willing to travel 40% to 60% of the time
  • High School diploma/GED with Associate Degree or Technical training
  • 8+ years of experience in a Mechanical position, in a manufacturing setting
  • Operations, Maintenance or Engineering Leadership experience
  • Demonstrate Knowledge and Expertise in areas of:
  • Maintenance & Operations of Mechanical Drive Systems
  • Gearboxes, Spindles, Couplings, Bearings, Sprockets & Pulleys
  • Machinery Lubrication, Analysis, Lube Selection and Filtration
  • Precision Installation Techniques and Predictive Maintenance Techniques
  • Failure Analysis, FMEA techniques and Root Cause Analysis
  • Excellent Computer Skills, and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Must be comfortable teaching, coaching and presenting to small teams and large groups, at all levels of the organization
  • Speaks/Writes English fluently and Communicates effectively
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Similar Field
  • 15+ years of experience in a Mechanical focused position, in an Aluminum Manufacturing setting
  • CMRP or CMRT certification (Maintenance & Reliability)
  • Lean Six Sigma Belt Training/Certification
  • Experience with Microsoft Project, and various CMMS Systems (Oracle, SAP, Maximo)
  • Project Management Experience with large Capital investments
  • Demonstrate Knowledge and Expertise in areas of:
  • Power Transmission Analysis, Vibration Analysis, Inspection & Reporting
  • Equipment Alignment, Balancing & Refurbishment of Mech. Systems
  • Mechanical Troubleshooting and Non-Destructive testing
  • Contingency Planning and Obsolescence Management
