The primary function of the Manufacturing Specialist - Mill Turn is to program, setup and manufacture low-volume made-to-order specialty medical devices on multi-axis mill-turn cnc machines. Reports directly to area Lead; works with Engineers, CNC Programmers and other professionals to address technical and design related manufacturing issues.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Production, including set-up and changeovers
  • Serve as technical subject matter expert within cell on relevant machinery/processes.
  • Facilitate problem solving activities
  • Program multi-axis CNC machines Setup and run low-volume medical devices
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities on assigned equipment
  • Support Specialty Product development, New Product Development, and Research and Development
  • Troubleshoot and repair machinery problems as authorized.
Expected Areas of Competence
  • Strong knowledge of all relevant machinery, tooling, measuring, and gauging equipment and use of proper handling methods in assigned areas.
  • Thorough understanding of production processes in area.
  • Knowledge of proper set-ups for machinery, blue-prints, routers, and set-up files.
  • Adequate knowledge of parts required to produce quality assembly per functional and cosmetic requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing instrumentation (e.g. micrometers, calipers, comparators, etc.), and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and blue-print reading.
  • Understanding of lean mfg concepts and objectives.
  • Ability to work effective with all levels of employees including production employees, management, and technical professionals
  • Basic people management skills, supplemented by Zimmer Biomet training courses (Insights Discovery, Essential Skills for Managing People, Train the Trainer, etc)
  • Understands Zimmer Biomet's Quality System
  • Advocate of Zimmer Biomet's core values and behaviors.
Education/Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of 4 years of manufacturing experience is required; manufacturing experience in a regulated environment is preferred (i.e., medical device, biomedical, pharmaceutical, aerospace, automotive, etc.).
  • A minimum of 2 years of CNC programming experience is preferred.
  • A thorough technical understanding of functional discipline is required, which may require advanced training or education as relevant.
  • Lean manufacturing training is preferred.
  • Lean certification is preferred.
Travel Requirements
  • Up to 5%.

Compensation Range: $18.87 - $34.04 per hour
