HORIBA Instruments Incorporated is seeking a Manufacturing Manager, located in Piscataway, New Jersey to support our U.S. Scientific business segment. The HR Representative position is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management in designated business units. The position formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of the organization. The HR Representative maintains an effective level of business literacy about the business unit's financial position, its midrange plans, its culture and its competition.

Essential Job Functions:

The successful candidate is a strategic-minded, hands-on, dynamic, and experienced individual who specializes in managing manufacturing processes, resources, capacity planning, and manufacturing floor layout configuration. The successful candidate will oversee and optimize new and existing manufacturing processes, workflows and layouts, and will assess resources needed to reduce costs and meet fluctuating customers' demand.

The Manufacturing Manager will lead the Manufacturing team and will help improve overall manufacturing processes through analysis and strategic and tactical planning. The successful candidate is a highly technical leader and is able to see the big picture and how each individual part of the process affects other pieces. The Manufacturing Manager will find efficient/optimal ways to use all resources: machines/tools, materials, and technicians, to ensure on time delivery of products, and maximize manufacturing throughput and profit.

The chosen candidate will demonstrate excellent leadership, strong ability to manage people, and organization and problem solving skills. He/she will maintain sight of the goals of the manufacturing team, keep everyone on task, and ensure all activities fall within budget.

  • Own and drive manufacturing operations to best suit the company's vision and policies. Develop, implement, refine, and maintain processes for best manufacturing practices.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation within manufacturing. Responsible for productivity of the team of cell supervisors and manufacturing technicians, quality, on time delivery and continual improvement.
  • Set, communicate and track priorities and productivity goals for all manufacturing lines. Ensures that manufacturing stays on schedule and within budget.
  • Work with Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering on the release of new products to manufacturing.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering in the planning and implementing equipment and process layouts on the production floor, for new products released to Manufacturing as well as production ramp-ups to meet customers' demands. Plan workflow, equipment placement and space requirements to optimize manufacturing efficiency.
  • Capacity planning for production lines. Assess all resources needed for production ramp-ups. Identify and solve bottlenecks, plan for optimal process flow and line balancing.
  • Review and calculate labor, material and other production needs to plan future production requirements and assist upper management in decision making.
  • Liaise between Manufacturing and Manufacturing Engineering for troubleshooting production issues, internal rejects, equipment/software problems, etc.
  • Lead investigations to determine root cause of quality issues in manufacturing, customer complaints, and customer returns. Work closely with the Quality team to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Document changes in manufacturing processes with procedures, work instructions, visual aids, etc.
  • Train manufacturing cell supervisors and technicians on manufacturing processes and changes implemented in production. Plan and promote employee training.
  • Reduce waste/inefficiencies in production by applying lean manufacturing principles.
  • Assess and ensure compliance with applicable health, safety and quality standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments. Assist in performing periodic cycle counts on the manufacturing floor and reconciliation with the ERP system (SAP). Monitor stock of finished goods and critical safety stock.
  • Interview, hire and review performance of manufacturing cell supervisors and manufacturing technicians.

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferred in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Management, or related subject.
  • 5+ years successful track record in instrumentation manufacturing management role.
  • Extensive experience in capacity planning and manufacturing resources management.
  • Technologically literate. Proficient with the entire MS Office suite. Solid knowledge of Excel, data analysis, Power Point. SAP experience a plus.
  • Proven ability to identify, assess, solve problems and implement process improvements.
  • Leadership skills. Ability to manage staff and work under pressure. Ability to drive teams into meeting business goals.
  • Outstanding organizational, analytical, decision making, and problem solving skills. Strong attention to detail. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong collaborative skills and ability to effectively relate to and communicate with people across all levels of the organization.
  • Solid time management skills. Ability to concentrate on meeting objectives and performance. Flexibility and ability to multi-task several priorities when encountering evolving business goals.
  • Knowledge and experience with Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing techniques/methods.
  • Experience in: clean room manufacturing, spectroscopy products, optics, scientific cameras, opto-mechanical components, or semiconductors manufacturing a plus.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
